My computer won't start up. It says I'm missing \system32\hal.dll. It tells me that I have to re-install a copy of that said file. What do I do? I am so worried. please help

I have Microsoft windows xp home edition installed

For some reason you are missing a vital system file.
You need to reformat your hard drive. Put your reinstallation cd in the cd tray. Restart your computer and press delete to load the configurations menu. Turn off the hard drive and other boot devices except the boot cd-rom. press F-10, save, and then enter. Follow the instructions from their. Hope this helps! Goodluck!

You have a bad start up file and probably will have to reformat the hard drive. You will lose all data on the disc.

If you do not have a good back up, contact a computer store to help you as you clearly are not sufficiently familiar with what needs to be done to try to save things.

This is bad... when you start up your computer , right as the first thing comes up press F10 and it will take you to system recovery. You have to recover everything on your computer.. but it will delete a lot of things too

If you still have the windows install disc then you can just put it in and press repair. if not then i have no idea sorry
