Running with a heart problem could be a good thing or a really bad thing.

It's great that you're running and eating better, but I HIGHLY recommend talking to your doctor before you go out for a run again due to your heart problems. Even though running is probably the #1 exercise for your heart, there are plenty of people who have suffered heart attacks running marathons or even just one mile.

If your doctor OK's it, then check out some beginner running plans at

So you have seen the cardiologist who referred you to a neurologist and you have passed out a lot. And you want to start running more and eating better. Is your last will and testament up to date? You should never start an exercise program without the doctor's permission. You have some serious health problems that must be addressed before you do anything. By the way being pretty hard headed can kill you.

As a marathoner and a doctor, my advice for you is to see your cardiologist.

You will need to be placed in a series of tests, including stress test, to see if your heart is safe for running.

Running is a dangerous activity. It can cause irregular heartbeat which may kill you instantly, or it can cause you to pass out somewhere and you can get dehydrated without anyone there to help you.

Last year at SF marathon (where I ran), 2 people died at the race. A few others died at other marathons.

Don't be hard-headed. Be smart. If you need medication, take it. If you need to avoid running, avoid it. Don't die from running.

YOU BIG DUMMY !! ASK YOUR HEART DOCTOR. Don't rely on Y!A to get specific advice on KNOWN medical problems.

Good Luck in getting yourself diagnosed and I hope your medical team can get you back to normal and that you will be cleared to run....
