what type of movies are they or should I say how are they encoded ?

If you go to google and search for gspot ( which is a utility that you can use to drag and drop video files to it will tell you what encoding is used on the video file(s) that you are trying to play, do this on windows xp unless gspot is compatable with vista.

Once you know what decoder it uses you can search for that decoder on google and install vista compatable ones on vista that or use vlc
