Oh, that is really inconsiderate and thoughtless. That would easily ruin my day. Almost as bad as making breakfast, then dropping it on the floor before getting to take even one bite.

Yes. It happened to me in India. I opened the door to the hotel thinking that hubby and the kids were right behind. They weren't and about twenty hotel porters walked through without so much as a nod of the head.
If it happens to me now, in Europe, I hold out my hand for a tip and make some caustic comment.

Well, being polite for thanks or gratitude is not my thing.
Sometimes i am nice just for PR stuff, u know.
If u are nice just because you are born nice, you will never notice the rudeness.
Ive seen men being embarrassed by me holding door.
BTW, the rule says that at door we must permit people to get out regardless age or sex.
Most of us are polite just because we want people to think about us that we are nice. That is a fact.
Then if you don't get some gratitude you fast became an moron too. That is a fact too :).
But is true that in a polite society it is easier to enjoy life.
My answer is no. i don't get upset, i do open doors everyday for others. I am not an doorman:)

I once held the door for an old lady with a walker who thanked me courteously. Then a parade of around 30 men, women and children continued through the door I was holding.
I just went through and dropped it on them.

Well thank god there's someone still left in the world with manners. I say, give what you get when people are inconsiderate. Next, time let in slam in the 5th or 6th guys face, and then say 'oh I'm sorry, I thought you had the door.' Besides by that point you're already mad and it will feel great to get it out.

Yes I did the same thing only the other day, I held the door for a young mother with two toddlers walking and a third baby in a push chair, she sailed past me without even a glance in my direction, and they say we old ones are rude.

Or how about you just shoveled your car out of your parking space, which was under three feet of snow, (whew) to go to the store, and when you get back your neighbor is parked in it?
ps. When someone is kind enough to take the time to hold a door open for me, I make it a point to thank them profusely.

That would be 'orrible, but all the people i've opened doors for have been very nice. I can't remember the last one who said nothing, and i've opened a lot of doors, 'cause it's a nice feeling to do it.
