The purpose of life is to live. You must live life like there is no tomorrow. Do what you want when you want because we could all die tomorrow and what will we have accomplished other than making other people happy by doing what they want. Well what about what you want. Do what makes you happy because you only have one life and if you keep trying to please everyone else you will never be happy yourself.

Live life to the fullest. You have the choice every morning when you awake to have a great day and if someone tries to bring you down just give them a little smile and tell them thanx, and when they ask you for what, you can tell them, for reminding me that I am a good person and there are alot of nasty people out there but as long as I don't let them get to me I will live a long and happy life regardless of what you think!!!!!!!!

Living for god...believing there's a god...these are delusional behaviors that prevent you from knowing life.

Imagine you have a VCR in the back of your head. Your eyes are cameras, and your mind is a TV. The TV can only display one thing at a time--either the live video from the cameras (your eyes) or the recorded footage on a VHS tape (various forms of social conditioning). When you buy into that religious garbage, you're sticking a VHS cassette in the back of your head, and you're blocking out all of the accurate information that would otherwise feed into your brain through your eyes.

Life is never going to make sense to you, because you can't see it. You've chosen to turn off your most vital connections to the world around you.

I believe the purpose of life is as the answerer said in Ec 12:13. But can we be perfect, No! Do we stumble, Yes! Jas 3:2; He 4:14-16. This doesn't give us an excuse to abuse our freewill and blatantly practice sin. Bible study and meditation along with prayer is needed for a Christian to do right in God's sight.-Joh 17:1-3. It is a lifelong commitment but he doesn't leave us alone. He gives his holy spirit as a helper-Joh 14:26.

To Mr Phax: I guess you are a perfect person!!

Don't feel bad you are not alone.
We all have doubts whether it be about God, friends, work, the weather.
Hold tight to your beliefs because in the end they are all you really have.
God loves you.
As for purpose well, think of it this way....Does a squirrel have a purpose? Does a lion have a purpose?
It is very lonely at the top of the food chain.
I guess it really depends on how you live your life that gives you purpose.
Do you live for yourself or do you live to help others?

I am going to assume you are talking about life on this planet and not life itself.

There is scientific proof that the planet is a living organism. The Gaia Hypothesis by James Lovelock.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Lovelock

I believe we are the central nervous system of Gaia. We are her eyes, ears, touch, thoughts etc.
We are a part of her as our cells are a part of us, and the whole solar system is a cell in a larger being..... perhaps.
The micro reflects the macro. All answers can be found to the bigger picture by looking at the smaller one.

It is confusion but here's the thing. When we say the "purpose of life", we mean something like, "what is it I was meant to do on earth" or "what was I put on earth to do?". The word "purpose" requires a Creator. Atheist Bertram Russell was being rather clear and honest in his thinking when he said,

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (20th century philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate)

So no one who does not admit that God exists could claim that his/her life had purpose.

When people talk about making their own purpose, they are speaking of feelings. They don't care about real purpose, they just want to feel good about themselves.

To live, laugh & love

Edit: also, the person above me with that link, you need to remove that. It basically says if you've broke ANY of the 10 Commandments (which almost EVERYBODY has), then u are going to Hell...which isnt true. *MY* God is an all powerful & FORGIVING God. Enen a murderer can make it into Heaven if he whole heartedly repents & pleads for God's forgiveness & really means it in his heart. And not like "oh i dont want to go to hell so i'm really sorry i killed someone"...the person must be SOULFULLY sorry & must seek God's forgiveness to the full extent of his heart.

(Sorry 2 get real religious at the end) LOL

For Jews - to work together as partners with God to repair the world and to bring peace on earth for all mankind in this life.

For Christians - to survive this life for a better place in the afterlife.

If you ever saw the movie "City Slickers", there's a scene where Mitch (Billy Crystal) and Curly (Jack Palance) are talking about the meaning of life. Curly holds up his finger and says something like "Do you know what the secret of life is? Just one thing. The rest of it don't mean s**t. But you have to figure out what that one thing is."

You just have to figure out what that one thing is - for you.

The dominate live form in the world are leafy green plants. They are immoble and their job is to change oxygen into carbon dioxide. People are just a support system for the plants. We are mobile and can be moved into areas that are short of oxygen for the plants to change into CO2. We give support to the plants by changing the CO2 back into Oxygen so the plants can continue doing their primary purpose or making CO2.
