My daughter is 10 months old and she has this new habit of sniffing things. Anything new, something on the floor, pretty much anything especially new things. Does anyone have a child who does or has done the same thing?

I am so old I can't remember what my children did (lol), but my 3 year old granddaughter started sniffing things very early. Even now before she will try something new to eat she wants to smell it first. If it passes her smell test she will eat it and usually enjoys the food. I've noticed that is she doesn't like the smell she does not like the taste, either.

Aren't children delightful! I love all their changes as they grow and learn. Enjoy every minute of her development! She will soon be grown up and you'll miss it.

Spoken from experience ....

I think your reaction to it was unfortunate. Now she's embarrassed and won't want to open up about what she was doing (if anything important at all...) If you had made a joke and a , 'what in the heck are you doing?' type thing, you'd have some place to go. She's probably just curious about what boys smell like?

You to have a sniffer. My 3yr old started about that age and now she is famous for "what's that smell"? She will pick up a piece of clothing and announce who's house it is from. The other day we were waiting in traffic and upon smelling the exhaust announced, "it smells like Fresno" (stinky city grandma lives in).

I don't have a sniffer but I have a farter....yes I said farter. At 8 months of age, she started farting on cue. She would do it as often as possible to get me to laugh. Now, at almost 4 years old, she announces when she lets the gas pass.

i have a 24 year old sister who does that. She's been doin that for as long as i can remember. She walks into the living room she smells the coach leather, she smells her napkin, smells her pillow or mattress, smells her hair every few minutes, hats, clothes, even soda before she drinks it. I Don't know why they do it

children that age smell things, touch things and put things in their mouth. that is their way of learning and exploring the world. it is normal. if she didn't do it then you would have cause to worry. she will outgrow it when she is older but just be careful about keeping the sprays etc where she cannot get to them.
