Why are the wives of enlisted soldiers in general, seem to be more fat than the wives of officers?

As the wife of a senior enlisted soldier, I am pretty much insulted by the question. All that being said, as a junior enlisted wife, I was overweight. I had a hard time losing after the birth of my 3rd child. Unfortunately, I did not have the money to hire a babysitter so I could go to the gym or even for the gym itself or other weight loss programs. On the other hand the junior officer wives put their kids in child care while they went to the gym or hired babysitters. Also, as someone else said, when you have that small of a paycheck there is alot of mac and cheese and hamburger dishes in your diet...not too healthy. Officers can afford to have fish a couple of times a week and other leaner (and more expensive) dishes. As my husband has made it to the Senior Enlisted Ranks, he of course makes more money and my kids are older and don't need childcare, so I work and am more active and have the money to shop better and go to a weight loss program and am happy to report I am not overweight any longer! Don't get me wrong...I am NOT downing officers (or their "little" wives). They have pressures too, they are just different than ours. It isn't easy always being in the spotlight. If their husbands are in an important position, their every move is scrutinized...the grass isn't always greener! Hooah to all military wives, enlisted and officer, skinny and FAT!

Like someone else said Officer Wives are usually older and are done having kids or their kids are alot older so she has time to go to the Gym..
I'm a senior enlisted wife myself and I'm NOT fat!!!!! I also think it depends where you are stationed..When we were in GA there were alot of Fat officer wives, in MD there's a mix, but most enlisted wives are skinny..
Officers in general wants a Trophy wife, to show off at functions..

I think you just see more enlisted wives. There are a lot more of them then officer wives. I have see a lot of fat officer wives as well. The thing is, a lot of Americans are fat period.

You asked it backwards... Wives of soldiers are soppose to be LESS fat than officer's wives because soldiers don't get paid as much.

Because success makes you more attractive to some women. Probably most women.

You're a guy, right? Would you rather marry a woman who could support you, or a woman you would have to support? (all other things being equal)

Officers as a whole are probably going to have hotter wives - although I think there alot of beautiful women out there who just like a man in uniform regardless of his rank.

I THINK THAT IT PROBABLY HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE AGE FACTOR. MOST ENLISTED FAMILIES ARE EARLY 20'S TO EARLY THIRTIES AND AT THEIR "BABY MAKING" AGE, WHERE AS THE MAJORITY OF OFFICERS ARE OLDER AND PROBABLY HAVE SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN.
Plus I am sure that if alot of the enlisted wives had the monetary means to loose weight, they would.

much more is expected of officers, everything has to be perfect, this reflects and in their spouses as well.

then there are some who just prefer heavy set mates

Hey my baby is enlisted and I am not fat Im 5'4" and adverage 120ibs. Not bad for a mother of twins.
