I have maxed my credit card and want to transfer the balance to another with interest free on balance transfers. Haven't been successful in getting one and then read that if you are not registered at your address, you are not likely to get one. I recently registered, so have i now got a good chance of getting one. I haven't got a good credit rating, I always pay my debts, but not always on time?

You need to be registered at your address on the electoral role, which can take a while to update.

Also, not paying your debts on time will damage your credit rating, even though you do pay, it will lower your score.

Making more than a 3 or so applications for credit in 6 months can also damage your credit score, so limit yourself to how many you apply for.

I would concentrate on paying all your debts on time for the next 6 months, and then start trying again. By that time you should be on the electoral role, so you`ll have a much better chance.

Gone are the days with 0% APR's on balance transfers. The feature was misused so much that credit card companies thought it best to revoke these offers. The reason could be the loss of revenue to credit card companies but this habit of transferring balances frequently and avoiding the debt repayment was increasing the volume of credit card debt. Balance transfer is a good practice if done with caution and restraint.

1. Advanta Life-of-Balance Platinum Card

This credit card issued by Advanta is very popular among the balance transfer community. The reason being that it offers a low 2.99% Fixed APR for LIFE on balances transferred within 3 months. That is an offer which few credit card companies can match. With this excellent balance transfer rate the Advanta Life-of-Balance Platinum Card offers Up to 6% Cash Back or Travel Rewards. The credit card has No annual fee, and the reward program has no limits on earnings. On the whole a good credit card to transfer the balances. I think you have to wait a period of time before you can get a card because you have only just registered.

Sometimes you can get a new card as long as you have good credit.

Try and pay more off a month, to keep under the limit
