Ok, im not critising or taking the mick, but i came across this as i was reading the bible online, Mary was 12-13 when see married Joseph according to matt 2:1, who he was 40-90 according to christian scholars, but before the marriage, Mary conceived Jesus at the age of 11-12, God said he planted his seed in her womb, according to catholic gospels,Matthew,Luke,Mark and John.
Why Did God Choose a 11-12 year old ????

Considering that there is not one single word in the Bible condemning sex with children (compared with a plethora of admonitions against all kinds of consensual adult sex) I think you have a good point.

Hey folks, come on, get a grip. Don't you guys realize that all of you are fighting over nothing? It may be a horror today if someone were to want to marry someone age 12 or 13 (or 9 as I understand for Muhommad - however the hell thats spelled)
BUT WHAT YOU ARE NOT GETTING IS:
two things;
first of all: It was not weird in those times to have an arranged marriage; the girl would know far before even puberty who she would be married to.
Second: It DID NOT MEAN sexual intercourse: it meant the girl would go to live in the mans house, where she would be able to get accustomed to her new surroundings, new life, new family in the home, etc. etc.... it was for her benefit.
Do you know that quite often the girls mother would accompany her there?
Yes, thats exactly right. Mom would go too.
This would not be a situation where a little girl was ripped from mommys arms and thrown to a ravenous wolf who would rape her. Come on, people, get those thinking caps on, okay? You guys are fighting terribly over this.
Although I only know what I have read about the Muslims deal, I can answer to Mary and Joseph. Yep, Mary was young; not as young as the other muslim girl, but
I believe between 12 and 13. Mary was
brought up learning Scripture and was very devout. She actually went away to schooling in the Faith of God and wished to be a prophetess (teacher of Scripture).
No, Joseph was NOT 90 years old! The manuscripts (massorah) only suggests that he was a younger man, probably in his
late twenties or very, very early thirties if even that old. And to call Joseph a pedophile by Christian Doctrine would be incorrect, because Joseph DID NOT IMPREGNATE MARY. The Holy Spirit impregnated Mary. If ya wanna scream and yell at the Holy Spirit and name it as
a spirit pedophile, be my guest, but thats pretty silly doncha think?
One other point: You need to also remember that people's life spans were not like they are today. Many died early from disease, etc., so naturally they would begin marriage, etc. earlier as well, right? Just a
side-point.
Mary was chosen to be the mother of Christ because she fit the bill. She was of the bloodlines of both Judah and Levite -
thats both the King line AND the priest line,
making Christ both King and High Priest.
ps: the Gospels of the New Testament are not "Catholic". As a matter of fact, the Catholics have their own printed Bible. I went thru it and compared it to the manuscripts and found more than thirty obvious changes in the first five pages of Genesis, so please do not call the Gospels "Catholic"; perhaps the changed
doctrine copies are theirs, but certainly NOT the manuscripts, from which I teach.

God chose the girl because she was so pure of heart. God didn't have sex with her so how can he be called by this term. Icarus states that there is not one word in the bible that forbids sex with children, well there is:
Jesus makes it clear that "whoever shall cause one of these little ones that believe in me, to fall into sin, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea" Sin includes sex, outside of marriage.
I believe that in a world where marriage vows are taken seriously and love is the main factor God would not frown on any marriage between any pubescent girl and a loving man.
However in the unspiritual world we live in today any such marriage would be abusive and exploitative and so these limits of age of consent are correct for the age we live in.
Also, in this age, I believe that girls do not mature emotionally and mentally as quickly as they did in the old days as they have too many unspiritual influences; even though they mature physically quicker. Another reason for the age of consent been correct for our times.

because girls were virgins up to 3years and a day according to moses. it is the western culture that put a taboo on sex with a girl younger than 18. in south africa there were 40 year old men that had children with 14 year old girls in the late 1800 s
it is strange how christians get upset by a statement like this

God is not a pedophile. Either God is one or God does not exist. According to The Infancy Gospel of Thomas, Mary was sixteen when this happened. The one that was sent to Mary was Gabriel. Read of the lamentations of Joseph over this situation.

For this to be a credible, please provide the source of your "online Bible". No Bible I know stated Mary's age. Also your soure for your information that it's legal to have sex at the age of 12 "in some states".

Well, it was not uncommon in ALL faiths and religions, or any people at that time for girls to be married by thirteen or so.
You can't apply our current laws to what was then. In fact until only recently many states allowed girls to be married at fourteen.

I am not a preacher but I'm sure you have heard of "immaculate conception" He never had sex with her. And back in those days that was the age women married and had children.
