i have a verbatim cd-r. i need to know if i can record a tv programme on that from a tv dvd recorder. if so how because when i put it in it says black disk then i press the recording button and it doesnt do anythings

You're trying to record a CD on a DVD recorder. Do you see a problem here? Unlike the DVD burners for your computer, the ones you connect to your TV are not capable of burning and multiple forms of media.

the poster above is right on the nail-you are inserting the wrong disc-to record visual images you need either (depending on the model of your DVD player) DVD+R or DVD-R some players especially in the panasonic range will record onto both formats.

I think you need a dvd-r disc for recording on DVD.

To record VIDEO....you need a DVD-R disk.
CD-R works for Audio or software/data storage only....

maybe they are not compatible!
as the other person says better try a dvd-r,
