You don't. You can not retire after 20 years in the Army and join the Coast Guard or any other branch of the military. In fact, the USCG will not take anyone with over 13 years of service in any other branch.

When I was thinking of getting out of the Army, they were advertising positions on Monster and other web sites aimed at former military based on your former rank. The link sent you to a web site run by the CG where you filled out an application.

Overall the process is different then a transfer in the Military because CG is DoT.

I decided to stay Army so I never made the change.

Ask your Battalion or Brigade retention NCO, they should be able to hook you up. But a branch transfer, different MOS?... you'll have to re-train and take a rank reduction for sure. Why not go Army Reserves and keep it all? Good luck!

ok, just to get you straight away. the protection stress/Goverment/Federal is each and every of the comparable situation. Technically the Coast look after comes below the dep. of place of foundation secure practices and not the dep. of protection. i think of that's what you have been attempting to declare. regardless of the undeniable fact that, the Coast look after exceptionally plenty follows the comparable regulations with the aid of fact something of the protection stress. Now comes the no longer ordinary area. some human beings think of that with the aid of fact they have been given a common below Honorable ability that once a quantity of time it is going away and each thing is all Honky-doory. It ain't. in case you particularly need to get into the USCG or the different branch, i visit could desire to cajole them which you're some thing that they choose. you will be able to desire to instruct that the guy who have been given kicked out of the army isn't the comparable guy or woman who's attempting to get into the Coasties. you will be able to desire to make like a salesclerk and sell your self to them. you will be able to desire to instruct them which you have grow to be a variety citizen and which you have grew to become your existence around. you will could desire to instruct what accomplishments you have made for the reason that leaving the army. checklist any college classes or very own progression seminars you have taken. which you have benn able to looking and shop a activity. And that in case you have lost your activity it grow to be with the aid of present financial issues. instruct which you have stayed out of difficulty with the regulation. incredibly, you will be able to desire to instruct to them which you would be an asset and not liabilty. they could desire to understand which you will no longer cause them to be apologetic approximately their determination to allow you to connect.
