A 'Compressor' is a machine designed to add Pressure Energy to a Gas. (Increase the pressure of a gas).
When pressure of a gas is increased, its volume decreases and its temperature increases.
This can be accomplished by many types of compressor.
1. Centrifugal.
2. Axial-Flow.
3. Reciprocating (Single or Double acting piston types).
4. Rotary Compressors ...Gear and Lobe types.
5. Diaphragm and Plunger types.

A gas compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume. Compression of a gas naturally increases its temperature.

Compressors are similar to pumps: both increase the pressure on a fluid and both can transport the fluid through a pipe. As gases are compressible, the compressor also reduces the volume of a gas. Liquids are relatively incompressible, so the main action of a pump is to transport liquids.

a compressor is a machine used for pressurized gases.
Ussually, it is used in vulcanizing shops to give oxygen gas to tires.
It is also used by deep sea divers, like the Muro-Ami divers of the Philippines to supply divers air to breathe while they are under water.
