People use the name of God when they engage in terrorism or start a war because they know they need to do so to get their populations to support them. When an authority figure says he is acting in the name of God, how many people actually question that? Human beings have a tendency to be ethnocentric and they will believe that God is always on their side. And those who do question that claim can be intimidated more easily if the name of God is used.
So, no, God does not tell people to kill in His name, but people have always found ways to say that he does.

Read the Holy Bible. You will find that the Old Testament is one of the bloodiest books ever written. People have killed for the sake of their god or gods since before the beginning of recorded history. This is a part of human life that is not going to end any time soon.

Scriptures of christans, jews and Moslems have called upon the faithful to wage war against the unbeleivers. It relates to a particular phase in its history.
The Makkan pagans persecuted the Muslims very much.And they plotted to kill the Prophet himself.Hence, he had to migrate to Madinah and establish an Islamic republic there.
The Makkans wanted to raise a big army and kill the nascent Islamic state.Then Allah sanctioned permission to the persecuted muslim refugees from Makkah to fight against the infidels to protect the churches, monastries, synagogues and Mosques from sure ruination by unbelievers.
Thus, the time "to fight in the way of God" has gone by.
"Jihad" means striving to the utmost only.The Great Jihad consists of 'fighting the unbelievers with the Holy Quran ' only.
If anyone pleads with the Muslim youth today to fight in the name of God and become a 'martyr' , he has ;
i) no authority to say so;
ii) jihad is a divine sanctioned authority to the oppressed Muslims to fight against the opppressor only,and killing of innocent peoplecannot be deemed a jihad;
iii) the cause of jihad has to be such that even the opponents should appreciate the spirit behind it;
iv) the preparation and equipment must be such as to lead the opponent to fear the muslims.
If the fight fails to satisfy the above conditions , it cannot be deemed to be a jihad.Hence, the much -adoed- jihad of present day cannot be deemed jihad.
Lastly, Islam deems the 'Human soul" a sacred one and hence, suicide as well as homicide are taboo in Islam. So the terrorist cannot be deemed a Muslim.
The present day jihads are politically motivated and not
due to religious considerations.
iii)

I suggest you read one book. It's now available in English. It is to the Salafist Jihadist terrorists what "Mein Kampf" was to the Nazis. Only 160 pages long, it will answer many of the questions you might have about the motivation of the terrorists. The author was one of the co-founders of the Muslim Brotherhood in North Africa and was hanged by order of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. The info on the book is the source listed below.

Just blunders and slip-ups with human errors.
With the blind in blindly following the Piped Piper's tune of "My way" were blindly following like the rats in drowning themselves in the rivers without being aware of the mess created in own backyards.
Luke 6.39-40,41-45,46-49
Ever wonder where are the human intelligent in them getting themselves kick on the butts by the dead Mummy of failures and hoorors of the past from the graveyards of different ancestor's custom in making a mess out there?
The blunders and slip-ups with human errors in idol worshiping the dead Mummy of failures and horrors of the past living in misery in not worshiping God without being aware of the mess created in own backyards.

A fake faith might grant better convenience than no faith in any respect. and then lower back, it would desire to not. The religon of Atheism gives you wish...and lots frustration, as do all religions. If faith did not grant something, then political extremism might take its place.
