A few months ago I was sitting on the fence about Christianity. Do I or don't I. Most of my friends are Christian, my husband is Christian. My husband knows nothing about what he believes in, he believes because his family tells him does.
I wanted to find more info about this great one we call God. My husband was no help at all - even I knew why we celibrated easter!!
I don't like jumping into things. I always read the fine print. I wouldn't buy a car without checking it's history. So I went on
Y!A and went to links that some answerers had suggested. Now I don't think there is anyway at all I can believe.
I go to church to keep the in-laws happy and we display crosses in our home but I don't believe.
I know it's more of a statement than a question.

i just now chanced upon this quote:

I know how you feel. I was there at one point. But after I had done a bunch of research and looked at what science had to say and that christian argument for the earth being young and against evolution and how the stories in the bible where totally false, I decided to leave religion behind me. Good luck with your choice and don't let anyone pressure you on how to believe.

And if you think about it, nothing in the bible is supported by evidence, it is just there. Why would what is in there be true?

Good for you. I've read the other answers to your question. Consider this... the Christians want you to believe that a cosmic Jewish zombie, who is his own father, can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced, by a talking snake with legs, to eat from a magical tree... (etc.)... and they want you to think that there is something horribly wrong with people who ARE NOT so gullible and droolingly stupid as to believe such outrageously ridiculous codswallop.

... and they want you to worship a vile and evil ('though imaginary) entity who sent his own son to be tortured and grotesquely killed... as a blood sacrifice... TO APPEASE HIMSELF!

To me, that seems to be more than a little bit INSANE... or, at the very least, stupid.

I see it as though your faith is suffering because you are not surrounding yourself with people of faith. It can be astonishing to see what a simple change of atmosphere can do for one's spirits. Where you are is more about routine than about a genuine desire to be there.

I would suggest that you and your husband need to find a new church, if only just to break up the routine that you associate with your faith. If he refuses, then you need to go on your own; if he tries to pull any of that "I'm the man so I'm the spiritual leader of this house," crap, let him say what he wants and then do it anyway.

If you really feel this way about your family and friends, the best thing you can do is have an experience in your own life that prompts a notable change. Your friends and loved ones will notice the change, and will be curious about it. Your rejuvenated faith might actually help to inspire theirs as well.

But definitely start going to a new church--one that makes worship fun; one that doesn't do too much in routine; one that rarely discusses hell but focuses on heaven; one where you can actually see the positive impact that faith has on the people attending.

The fool has said in his heart there is no God. Of course there is a God. Don't be silly. Too many churches have only a form of religion and lack spiritual power. In fact the Lord Jesus Christ is outside of the church, knocking from the outside. Those inside who hear his knock and open the door to him, will find reality with God. Get your eyes off people and open the door to Jesus yourself. Start reading the new testament for five minutes per day with fresh eyes. Take all your doubts, angers, frustrations to the Lord in prayer. It is you and God. Do it gal.

Well no ones forcing you to believe. It's ultimately your choice and NOBODY else's and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise....

I never got it either, never had, and probably never will so I just chose a hedonistic lifestyle :) I think if your family and in-laws truly love you they'll understand if you explain your beliefs to them. If not and If people are gonna judge you for it shame on them for judging you based on labels and prejudice over the quality of a person...

I think you would be better off going to the Bible than links on Yahoo Answers. I suggest that you do a systematic Bible read thru and ask God to reveal Himself to you.

God is not offended by honest skepticism. An honest skeptic is someone who isn't sure but is actively investigating and trying to find the truth. And who is willing to follow the truth where ever it leads. Even if it leads exactly to the place she was hoping it wouldn't.

However most skeptics aren't honest. A dishonest skeptic is someone who uses her skepticism as an excuse to stay where she is. And someone who isn't really investigating and trying to find the truth at all.

Here is a verse to keep in mind.

Romans 1:19 [T]hat which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.

He will make Himself evident to you too if you are willing.

Y!As does not hold the answer. Nor do the churches. However, actual Scripture does...
Have you considered the prophecies about the then-future of Christianity?:

“Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens... Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness." --Mt 7:21-23

"... I will ... cut off the pretext from those who are wanting a pretext for being found equal to us in the office of which they boast. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ..." --2 Co11:12-15

"...There will be false teachers among you . These ... will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them... Many will follow their acts of loose conduct, and on account of these the way of the truth will be spoken of abusively... But as for them, the judgment from of old is not moving slowly, ..." --2 Pe 2:1-3

"...Keep your eye on those who cause divisions and occasions for stumbling contrary to the teaching that you have learned, and avoid them. For men of that sort are slaves... of their own bellies; and by smooth talk and complimentary speech they seduce the hearts of guileless ones." --Ro 16:17-18

“TEST the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world." --1 John 4:1

"Make Sure of all things; hold fast to what is fine." --1 Th 5:21

"All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work." -- 2 Ti 3:16,17

" The Be·roe′ans ... received the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so." Acts 17:10,11

"All the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope." -- Romans 15:4

You too can find the hope that is truly offered in Scripture.
Ask: What does the Bible ITSELF really teach?
Search for the answer, where it CAN be found...

Believing in God is not like shopping for a new wardrobe it is based on faith and one must be directed by footsteps and eyes of faith. Why do you go out and search for something you need? Because you truly do need it and thus make all the effort to find it and even pay a price to acquire it.

If you are going to search for the God of the bible, then the aforementioned is a good place to start but search only if you are truly willing to pay the price for what you find and what he requires according to the Christian faith is true humility and honesty of heart; "and you shall search me and find me, if you shall search me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:13).

Would you settle for someone to love whom truly did not care about discovering who you are and was not willing to pay the cost of what you required of him for this love? Would you want to be found by such a person? Would you want this person to pursue you merely for personal gratification?

The God of Christianity (and the bible) is a person, not an entity and he desires those whom desire him.

Just my own experience honestly and truly without condemnation.

Hey remember now theres more than one religion to consider in your quest for the divine, despite what many people will say it is my absolute belief that people will find and worship god in different ways. Christianity is one room in a house full of rooms. Remember this is not about in-laws this is about what is right for you!

Catholicism,
Buddhist,
Hindu,
Protestant,
Baptist,
Mormon,
Pagan,
Wicca,

And all the different sects of each!

Research all of them! Ask the divine to be shone to you!
Feel what is right for you! you can experience the religion or spirituality that will fit your lifestyle if you go looking for it.
