My boyfriend just proposed today!!!! I loved it! It was so original and my ring is beautiful! But anyway, we are thinking about setting the date for January or February. My question is: What now? What is the first thing to do? What do i take care of first as far as the planning goes?

Congratulations!!! The first, and most important, thing to do is sit down and seriously think about your budget. You should put together a realistic budget and work from there. After that, you need to pick a date and speak with your church (if you want a church wedding) to make sure it is clear. Then you need to look for reception venues.

A few things to think about would be what kinds of flowers you want to use. If you have your heart set on red roses then 2 weeks before or after Valentine's Day is not for you. During that time roses are in high demand and will be pretty expensive.

Once you have your reception location you'll have to get your other vendors such as DJ, baker, caterer, photographer, videographer, florist, wedding planner (if you want one) and musicians for the ceremony.

Be prepared the man wont want anything to do with thangs important to you dresses decor cake etc. First thing i'd do is look at the budget how much do you want to spend and what kind of a wedding you want the avrage wedding costs 10k which is an obsene amount to spend for one day. If you have that kind of money spend it it'll be a cracking day out if you don't spend a little have a good honeymoon.

The truth is the stress of a big wedding isnt worth it. If your getting married in jan you better start looking at booking things and soon most photographers, halls, receptions etc I went to were booked for a year in advance. hope you enjoy your big day. (take some advice get married on the cheap and in august)

Check first for someone to perform the marriage, and a location for the ceremony, then you have your date set for sure. Then, next you need to book the reception venue, caterer and band - depending upon where you live these may need to be booked eight months to a year in advance. On to the fun stuff then - invitations, attire, flowers, cake, etc.
Congrats, and good luck. Make sure the two of you figure out your budget first, how much the two of you can afford to spend on the wedding, then plan the style of the wedding and number of guests accordingly.

First thing we did was pick a date and made the reservations for the church and the reception. Then I bought a book that directed me week by week on everything that should be getting done. Our wedding wasn't quite as formal as the wedding that the book outlined, but it was very helpful as I was working fulltime, going to school fulltime and didn't have very much help from family and friends. I bought magazines and sent in all those annoying little mail-in flyers that fall out of magazine and usually drive me crazy!
Good luck!! And don't forget to enjoy this time...it's very easy to get overwhelmed!!

Hi, i would personnally write up a list of possiable guests that you would be inviting (seperate list for both church or marrige location and the reception)

(add a few extra to count for those you may have not thought about)

this will then help you with your location as many places only cater for so many people and it would be a shame to have to cut numbers down because of this.

After this i would book both the wedding venue and the reception as these get booked really early. once you have these then all your other wedding plans can be built around them.

Congratulations

find a maid of honor to help you. pick an exact date. how many people? where? what';s your budget as of right now? Would you want to hire a wedding planner? Colors? Also I have a friend who is a professional photographer and she always emphasizes that reserving a date with your photographer ASAP is important to reserve the date. I worked at Davids Bridal for a while and learned you need to order your gown at least 2 months before the wedding in case alterations need done or anything else happens.

book your church or what ever location you want.
then see if you can get a reception place for the same exact day.
you do have to pay deposits on these things.
I have no idea wher you live but in Jan and Feb you can have a blizzard and that can spoil your little wedding event.
Consider that. You will have to pay the fees for the reception if poeple do not make it due to weather.
then you have to find a place for the two of you to live.
Lots of things to do.

Congratlations by the way

Awwwwwww, i'm so excited for you!!!. I'm getting goosebumps!!! Winter Wedding, I can see it now! Anyhow, you should probably look for a location for the ceremony and reception first because they usually book up pretty fast. By doing that you can get a feel of your budget and work around that. Some other vendors that book up fast are Photographers, limos and Djs. Good Luck and congrats!!!

first decide on a budget, then what you would like in your wedding. Were will you have your wedding and the date. who will be in your wedding. Then if using silk flowers go ahead and order them and get them completed and out of your way, they keep. Then work on your reception, what foods? Are you having a sit down dinner? You need to start with just your basics first and go from there. Best Wishes.

Sign up at www.theknot.com

Once you have signed up and put in your information (wedding date) they will create a checklist for you with certain things you should have looked into or completed by a certain point. They also have a budgeting tool to help you keep track of the money you are spending and what you're spending it on.
