Can you put replace and install your own hard drive in the Playstation 3? If so, how is it installed? I am thinking that in the next few years, there will be alot of downloaded content on 360 and PS3, so we'll all start running out of room. I think I remember hearing about the possibility of replacing the factory PS3 hard drives with your own, any size you want. Does anyone know anything about this?

You don't need to replace the hard drive. You can hook up an external USB hard drive (of any size) and copy things off of the internal hard drive to the USB hard drive. This way, you have copies of your content, and it's not taking up space internally.

Keep in mind that the external hard drive is still available to be used for viewing movies and other downloaded content.

weird, I just watched a video of that and I saved it just in case I needed to replace a ps3 hard drive someday, it looks really easy, expensive though. Here's the link to the video.. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/55011.html

Yes you can, you just need a standard laptop hard drive, dont get over 5400rpm or the PS3 might get to hot, I think it needs to be 2.5' SATA (I think). But you can definitaly put a new one in, I think its in the manual somewhere.

Yeah, you can and it's fairly straightforward. (I don't think it'll even invalidate your warranty)
Here's a link to show you how;

Just check the details of the drive before you get your new one.
