you know, when I first glanced at this question, instead of "Christians" my eyes read "Canadians".

I don't think that our current leaders being Christians have anything to do with our country being in the mess it's already in. Honestly, I think America would be a better country if EVERYONE was a Christian. Everyone go ahead and call me foolish now.

dog: "Christian" is a relative term. What is a "Christian" in the first place? Is it someone, who attends church, prays, believes in God? - Not necessarily so ! A more refined definition would be, anyone having a spiritual - NOT "RELIGIOUS" , relationship with God, the Father, through Jesus Christ, actualized by the Holy Spirit ! Jesus said, our world is not of this one [ in reference to the world yet to come at His return to earth] . Even; if all America's leaders were "Christian" there is no chance of America going in a "better direction". Why? Because the people are not "Christian" and it is not in God's intention to make them all "Christian", either ! God is love and love gives people a choice. On another "note", I would say, that America's future will not get any brighter with its leaders being non-believers !!!

The leaders, no matter what their personal preferences and beliefs, should act in the best interests of ALL Americans - not just the ones that voted for them or the ones that live a certain way.
So being all Christian (or all anything else) wouldn't necessarily prevent them from being good representatives, but the utter lack of diversity in the leadership would inevitably lead to a certain amount of bias and discrimination.

How could it be better? We could have more Crusades, we could maybe have a few "inqusitions" Maybe get Differnt religions (who supposedly believe in the same God) To war with one another. Oh It would be Grand!!! We could just throw the human race back a thosand years or so, and start all over again.
Its a Terrible idea!! Christians Have been warring and killing each other for thosands of years, They dont seem to learn from there mistakes and you can bet if we are led by a goverment of Christians , we'd start making all the same mistakes again...

HA. what in the world makes you think they're NOT christian?
George W Bush says he talks with God on a daily basis. politicians often visit chruches as P.R. stunts.
the point is that religion really has nothing to do with how good or bad a leader a person will be for the nation or the world.

I'm a theist and I believe my attorney friend who's an atheist (on moral and ethical grounds ONLY) should be the next Govenor of Pennsylvania and then maybe, just maybe if we as a nation would be fortunate enough, as President. This guy's unstoppable and amazing intelligence coupled with restraint and wild sense of humor would be a real treat for people every where.

No. No. As a former follower of Baptism I am ashamed and horrified by the actions of evangelical Christians, their influence in government, the Southern Baptist Church's support for segregation of different races, the support for nuclear proliferation, unjustifiable wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc.
No, there has to be separation of church and state. Government should be run by experts in various areas such as economics, sustainable development, women's rights, anti-poverty activism, humanism, roads, infrastructure, budgeting, civil rights, investment and other areas. Minorities have to feel welcome. For all the embracement and glorification of diversity, has there ever been a non-Christian President? A non-white President? A female President?

Oh, no it wouldn't. An all-Christian leadership would lead to a nightmare-realm of hypocrisy for leaders and oppressive conformity for everyone else. Thousands of college co-eds would be pressed into secret prostitution Jessica Hahn-style so the leaders, who can't directly admit sexual interest or the fact they can barely feel their wives any more can have their jollies in "safe" conditions yet still remain pious in the eyes of the electorate. Also homosexual prostitution combined with methamphetamine use would skyrocket!

Im surprised by your thoughts on that. I see alot of things are alive and well that are pretty secular. Gay Pride is alive and well in all aspects of our society (media, religions, politics) We have legal abortions alot of hot button stuff for Christians. You dont see alot of espousing the Christian faith in movies, music, or sitcoms. I see alot of secular and humanist worldviews in our country. The peoples beliefs will speak in terms of elections. Its not the 50's anymore, the elected will eventually represent the people which is becoming quickly non christian for the most part
