That's the down-fall to the AF and why I ended up joining the Army. The AF doesn't gaurentee you the job you want and chances are the more popular jobs will be gone.
I wanted to be a nurse in the military but the AF couldn't gaurentee me that. I didn't want to be stuck doing some paper-pusher job. As far as I know there is no way to get that gaurentee.
I would join the AF if I could keep the job I have now. The AF treats you far better than the Army. But to not be able to decide what you want to do stinks. Also, my husband, who is in the air force and has been in for 7 years hasn't been promoted to E.5 yet. You'll find out what that means. I've been in for three years and have already received that promotion to sergeant. It's not easy to increase in rank in the AF.

To be a nurse in any branch, you would have to be an officer, so am assuming you ended up as a PA assitant or med tech.
At the moment, the Army is the only one garunteeing slots and only if there are openings in the field. You could still choose a job and be told that there are no slots availble and to choose another. This can happen in any branch. Complicating matters is that so many support postions stateside are being outsourced to civilians that many career fields are actually being forced to downsize! I would advise staying completely away from medical admin..that is a dying field in the AF. If possible, choose 5 very different jobs that youwould like to do..this will help assure that one is open. You can also check online to see which fields are looking for people and which are fully manned.

The previous answers have good points. You get to choose five jobs. The recruiter should tell you what you qualify for, based on your ASVAB scores.
They can tell you what is available at that time. As previously stated, GET IT IN WRITING. They can guarantee you a job, may not be your first choice, but something you want or like.
If its not in writing when you sign your enlistment contract, you will likely end up in Security Forces (Cop) or a cook. Those jobs are always open and have the lowest qualifying scores.

The army is the only branch right now giving you a job enlistment. The fine print in ALL branches is, they will put you where they want you! In the AF you do not pick a job, you will be picking a FIELD! Your job is when you go to basic, when you go downrange to train they will put you where the TABs (tight *** brass) want you to be. I sighed 11B in the army, Infantry, i got stuck in 11C which is mortars due to the test grades in Asvab, So what you need to do is go to MEPs giving 5 fields you would like to be in and just suck it up because they will put you where they want you to be. Either way your contract is just a paper, they can and will change all of it how they want. Anyway you look though good luck with you service! Make it the best you can!

yeah not something is set in stone staggering now. all that occurs at meps is the militia deems you slot or not worth for militia service. they make you swear in on the top in spite of the shown fact that it dosnt incredibly mean something. You swear in back once you circulate away and thats whilst it counts, staggering before you deliver out to elementary practise. additionally up until that ingredient you could back out and circulate away. The recruiter will try very complicated to not permit this ensue yet cant particularly end somone from walking out of the departmentprogram. in spite of the shown fact that he does have some duties consisting of goin to dep conferences and such and preserving interior the form he replaced into in on the meps. i circulate away in april for air tension elementary practise. my purely advice to you is which you and your fiance get married before he leaves for elementary. in case you dont then the militia wont understand your courting and subsequently won't provide the benifits that comprise marriage, no count how in love you're.

tell them that... tell them that you wont sign the paperwork unless you have it in your contract the job you want. unless its in writing before you sign, you have no control over it. if you tell them point blank that you wont sign until its in the contract in front of you... they will give you what you want.
