I just mean the point-and-shoot ones, like the SD series.

I was thinking about getting the SD1000 but I don't want to get it right when they're coming out with a new model.

Canon generally has a new SD camera announcement every February and August/September...so there could be some new models announced quite soon.
But, the SD1000 is a very good little camera and I doubt if you will see any real improvement on features etc. on any new models announced.
Another model to consider (which is better than the SD1000) is the SD850 IS, which has an image stabilizer.

Keep an eye on the www.dpreview.com site, they have news on new cameras every day. And, I really trust their reviews. Great site.
