I know a lot of people want to get into this country, but why always India, and why do they target martial arts schools and tournament promoters (I'm both a school owner and promoter and I get several of these scams per year.)

Has any one else had experiences with these groups? Is it strictly an American phenomenon or are European school targeted too? What do the scamers get out of it besides US visas?

I have no idea what scams you are talking about. Are you talking about the Nigerian "we want to send you some money" scam? If so, they send those to everyone.

The only way I know of that someone from India could get a visa to the US is through, quota work visas in fields such as medicine where the US doesn't have enough nurses, petition from family members already in the US legally, or through a K-1 or Spousal visa. Tourist visas are tough to come by unless they can prove that they will not skip out once they are in the US. That isn't easy to prove. The only other visa that I am aware of is the investor visa, and that requires a hefty deposit in a US bank account.

While I have not had any experience with any of these type of scams from India perhaps someone is taking a page from someone else's book. Several years ago Black belt magazine had a very good article on TKD and the Korean emigration connection for legitimate instructors to this country as well as others for the purpose of assisting with teaching at existing schools and eventually becoming sponsored for citizenship. This is how one of the local TKD studio owners came to this country and he is now a very successful owner of several businesses including his TKD studio from which this all came possible. The studio that he owns was originally owned by other Koreans who had emigrated much earlier and eventually sold one of their studios to him.

Many of the lesser countries have some people in them that will use almost any means, (including martial arts), to gain access to this country for the purpose of trying to make a better life than that which they currently have in their own.
