It is wrong, but then sadly many go for the gifts not for the reason they should be going, which is to draw closer to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Believe you me - those things allegedly given away for free actually cost you your soul. You made a great decision to leave that church and every other for that matter.
After I found the light and the truth - I have not been back into a church since then - it's been over 20 years since I walked into one of them demon infested portholes to hell.
You go girl. Besides - the preacher is trying to prime the pumps from the pocket books ... if he gives a cheesy gift - the congregation gets the impression that if they gave more money - they might get a blender or screw gun next mother or father's day ...
Brilliant strategy - stay out of the churches though - you did well.
The sites listed below have nothing to do with churches ... but; do offer salvation to all who can see.
Peace;

First off, this a sin all together, either way. Called the Sin of Neglect, in which we consistintley fail to do things we know God has commanded us to do (Jas 4:17) Missing church when you should have been there, or letting anything happen (bad) where it could have been different if you would've done something differently. You need to really first understand why you go to Church, so many people these days don't know enough about their religion to defend it. And it wont take all of your time up, Seek and You will find. And don't just go because your have to, understand that you are honoring our God and be thankful for everything you have in the bad times or good times of your life. Best wishes to you...

DENISE: "Going to church" is a personal thing. People go to church for all kinds of reasons. Some go for the pastor, some go because their parents make them, some go for the after services social club, and as you have stated, some go for the "goodies" made available to them on special days. Why should we go to church? The answer is very simplistic - because we worship God - plain and simple. You need to evaluate "why" your decision to not attend church is based on the behaviour or conduct of others.

That's a kinda backwards logic you got there--you know it's wrong to go to church ONLY for special occasions, and you solve the problem by not going at all? If you know that you should be going every week and not just on the "important days," then why do you not go at all? Isn't that more wrong?

Hey, you don't have to call me a meany...
...Oh. I'm sorry; you meant MANY...
I just think it's wrong (or more precisely, silly) to go to church at all. Then again I'm not Christian so I might be a little bit biased...

Finally someone who doesn't just go to church, just to go to church. I'd rather be in heaven surrounded by strong people than mindless flocks of sheep who just do what they are told without thinking about it first.
