I used to have the same problem at your age and still do sometimes. I used to be very indecisive. I would take all of my money to the mall and not spend one penny even if I was thirsty. I always thought that there could be something better to do with the money. Just take it easy and relax. Have yourself a little retail therapy and buy something for yourself that you WANT and not need. It could be something completely silly but at least youll feel a little more loose and no you dont have to spend all of your money at one time

You're 16 and I'm guessing you still live at home. Are your parents careful with their money? If so, then you've picked up their ideas and attitude about money. In any event seeing a counselor would be very helpful to find out when and why you have developed this. It sounds as though it's interfering with your happiness and life and since it is, a counselor can help you sort it out and make some changes.
Good luck.

I guess this might sound stupid, but maybe you won't feel as bad if you only spend $50 of the $400.This has nothing to do with money or being cheap or spending does it???

Why not find something reasonably priced that you really want and toss the rest into a savings account for something later on down the road (a car, college, housing, date, etc...). That might help you not feel so guilty but still save in the process.

IT's great that you don't waste your money. You wil find a way to find the balance to save and spend. Buy what you really want or need. Work hard for it and I think the guilt will go away. I wish there were more adults who would save money

You don't have to spend money. Do you have any savings? If you are being ridiculously frugal, then look at it this way: When you spend money, you keep the economy going and everyone has more jobs.

Maybe you're brought up with a self-righteous mother or father who taught you to give the shirt off of your back to strangers and leave yourself cold for the good of mankind.

BULLLLSH*T.

I think you need a good dose of Ayn Rand in her books called The Fountainhead along with The Virtues of Selfishness.
