What caused him to 'love' us instead of hate or dislike? If you think about it, saying something 'caused' god to love us directly implies that something can control or influence god, which isn't possible.

But to say nothing caused him to love us, well, then why does he love us? choice? can a being of any kind 'choose' a feeling? I know we humans can't choose our feelings and emotions, the idea of being able to 'choose' your feeling makes no sense to begin with.

So, what the heck, this is another aspect of god that doesn't make sense, can you make sense of it for me?

christopher, you're so wrong, there is SO much romantic and dramatic stories and real life people suffer because they love someone who doesn't love them back. You see how none of that would happen if feelings were a simple choice?

If feelings are a choice then why is there so much sadness? Why do so many people 'choose' to be sad, but wish they weren't?

People who respond 'god IS love' ect.:

Well, i like romantacism andpoetry as much as the next guy, I really do, but this is a serious ontological question that has to be addressed accordingly. Your meta-literal tool responses belong elsewhere.

Rayhab: "fellings are a reaction to a stimuli "

EXACTLY! If feelings are the result of stimuli from your physical enviroment, then God should inherently lac feelings! Because God is the 'omega' he does not exist in a physical setting, and no 'stimuli' could have the ability to affect him.

Brad:

sorry, but the fundamental feeling of love we have for our children is primarily a mammalian trait. For example, an alligator would eat its babies if it was hungry.

Actually, it is completely supported by evolution too, mammals have relatively small litters of offspring, because of this those protected for that specie to survive, so naturally animals that have small litters needed to develop a natural feeling of wanting to protect their young at all costs. This is what we would eventually name 'love'.

Does god apply to metaphors referring to laws of nature? I think not.

There you have made the first mistake. You said how can God choose a feeling, and that my friend is the common mistake among many many people, even adults. Some see this (what i am about to say) and others don't it is a common thing that could help a lot of people out and some never learn this simple statement.

Love is not a feeling. Love is indeed a choice.

Now, some people think that love is based on the fact that you like someone a lot, and that might be the case in a sense but it is not the complete truth. Love is when you choose to be with that person and no one else. I am using God in this so hang on, God commands us to love correct? Love the Lord your God, love they neighbor and other things in the Bible commands, not suggests, commands that we love. How could God feel justified in commanding us to feel something and then send us to hell because we don't feel it?

That would be like me winning a million dollars and God telling me that if i was not sad that i had won that money i would go to hell... how can that be justified in reality?

See, that is one main reason why divorce rates are so high, because people assume love is a feeling, and then later feel justified in telling their partner that the feeling is gone... nope.

Love is when you choose to be with that person despite their flaws, despite their problems, when you choose to deal with that person, despite their flaws.... See pure love is often mistaken for lust and like (two things we can't control) but that is not pure love... no pure love is what i have explained a choice...

Sorry, if this seemed confusing, you could email me if you want me to try again, its like 2 am here lol

Who says we can't control or influence God? We CAN influence God. Scriptures are full of advice for how we can influence God to help us (ie serve us):

1 John 3: 22 - http://scriptures.lds.org/en/1_jn/3/22#22
Matthew 7: 1-2 - http://scriptures.lds.org/en/matt/7/1-2#1

ie If we obey, God will listen to our prayers and desires. If we do not condemn other people, God will not condemn us. This shows that we CAN influence God's attitude towards us.

Why does God love us? Because God is a being of light and goodness... He is FULL of love.

Yes, something caused God to love us... We existed, and he saw our true potential. Created in his image, we have divine potential. He sees the good in us.... and he loves us for that.

God only gets angry with us when we hurt or destroy that which he loves - ie ourselves or our "brothers and sisters." But he is slow to anger, and quick to forgive.

Why would God hate his own children?

First cause is God.....we are created in the image of God.

Maybe not.....but we are Human Beings....and we naturally choose Love as our Highest choice of emotion.

Love is a natural state of being for us....we tend to disagree with war and killing, racism and hatred.
We do not argue against justice and respect and love for others. We choose Love naturally.

Our true nature could be considered....Love....which may also be considered the Highest energy....which in turn could be defined as God.

We were all created in God's image. Black, brown, yellow. white, ALL were created in God's image. One doesn't normally hate what one makes or creates, does one? I'm just grateful HE does love us. We, as a whole, haven't done much with what has been given us. Remember, love is FREELY given or it isn't love. God freely loves us even though we must surely try his patience! I hope this helps you. For a clearer understanding of the Bible, try reading some of the newer translations such as "New Living Translation:Life Application Study Bible". It really helped me achieve a clearer understanding and appreciation of the Bible.

God loves us because God IS love. Yes, God punishes and disciplines, yet He does so out of love for us. Many feel He punishes too harshly. Punishment isn't supposed to be pleasant, or we wouldn't learn from it. Sometimes God allows very bad things to happen to innocent people and it seems that He doesn't love us. Quite the contrary. God loves us so much that He gave us free choice. Because of this free will to choose, we humans choose to sin. Because sin entered the perfect world that God made for us OUT of love, the door was opened for evil to enter. Once that happened, catastrophes, disasters, illness, crime, hate and all that other yucky stuff came into the picture and many innocent people are hurt. God doesn't make these things happen, but He does allow them at times. Why? Don't know. I DO know that God DOES love us and everything He does is because He sees the full picture that we can't see, He sees every person's heart, and He knows what is best in the long run.

Yes, God loves us. He chooses to love us, but He also can't help but love us because His very nature is love. He loves us so much that He allowed His own Son to be born as a human and to be put to death, even though He was blameless, to pay the consequence for our sin. He was the living sacrifice for our sin (in those days, sacrifices needed to be made to atone for sin) and He took on our punishment OUT OF LOVE.

I guess the best way to put this is like Jesus said, "God is Love", without sin. Feelings are too easily instigators of our sins yet we cannot live without them. Thats why its so hard to explain to people that Gods love is for everyone that loves him, not everyone, or everything. Again I quote Jesus who said, "sell everything you own, then follow me". He was saying that his way was not a material path to be judged by material means.

There is a saying that goes: God hates sins but loves the sinners, how could he hate when he is the one who made us. God loves and helps........ Just don't let him get angry too much

It's His nature which happens to be ours too. Our ignorance to ourselves create this vacuum for this infinite energy which we feel as love to fill in every nook and corner of our ego. If we allow this love to flow in us unimpeded then our ego dissolves. We will see this love as us and as God and as one. Sometimes, in our loneliest moment we can sense the electrified energy filling our being - that is love coming out from us which we are running away from.... because it makes our ego vulnerable.

What the heck, it doesn't make sense, why on earth would God love us?? I don't know why, I just experience it as true and see it as the greatest wonder ever...

God loves us because He created us. No matter what we do, He will always love us unequivocally because we are all His children and he would never, ever drown everybody and everything in the world just to punish us.

Obviously.
