Why are we here?
Because...
omg it's a long story, you ready?

Ok, inside each of us there is a spirit, like a ghost but it's real. We are born with it, when we die the soul goes on, the spirit's itself is eternal.
Now, many millions or billions of years ago, we, the spirits, created a set of rules that govern the universe. We did not make the universe, we just made the rules, out of which it grew.
There does exist in the whole of it a balance, for which reason there exists good and bad, which is to say the devil would be what we call ultimate evil, and God would be ultimate good, but as for an actual spirit filling that position, most of us fall somewhere in between. For a bit of trivia, evil turns a spirit black, a purely evil spirit is all black, while good is clear as air, unlike the misconception that pure spirits are white, a pure spirit can not be seen.
In the whole of it, we're just here on earth because the spirit inside of you and I decided it wanted to experience physical existence. The spirit guides us, but it can not control our bodies in that sense, ultimately the mind controls the body.
I'm not sure how it works, but it involves a trade of some kind, time I'm sure, there may be other compromises, a lot of these questions will answer themselves after our physical bodies pass.
What we do in this world affects our spirit, do a bad thing and the spirit pays the price, however, time heals all wounds, do the right things and it clears back up.
The goal is to leave this world with as clean a slate as possible, that is, unless you enjoy evil. It is written in the book that for the end of time pure spirits will feel nothing, where evil spirits will suffer, don't ask me how or why, I do not know.

That's about it, I could go on but ...

There is no meaning life is what you make it. If you wake up one day and decide you want to help someone less fortunate than you then that was your purpose for that day. If the next day you wake up and decided you want it to be all about you then you put on your make up, do your hair and put on your cutest outfit and that was your purpose for that day to make yourself feel fabulous. Everybody is always looking for a purpose to life there is none your parents got together and now you are here, do what makes you happy, what makes you feel good about yourself and enjoy your life to the fullest. Good Luck

I believe each individual has their own purpose in life as well as their meaning. It just takes some of us longer to find it and some perhaps never do. To me the purpose of life is to live and the meaning of life is to just enjoy every moment that you possibly can and acknowledge that you're living.

Many artists was trying to find the answer. Many poets, writers, painters, musicians, and of course, philosophers was searching the answer. Many of them made theories. This question also asked in modern arts, such as computer games for example. In Deus Ex, the player's character, JC Denton is searching the purpose of his life. In the end, the player have to choose the character's destiny. I especially draw your attention to the dialog of JC Denton and the Morpheus AI in Morgan Everett's home, and the dialog with Helios in one of the ends of the game.

So, there are so many theories made already. You can either choose one of them, or you can make one for yourself. I also agree, that purpose of life is subjective, so only you know what is your purpose.

People can refer to two separate concepts when it comes to purpose of life. Real purpose, i.e. "why am I on this earth" and "what am I meant to do" requires a God who created us.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (noted 20th century philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate).

So if you mean real purpose, you have to seek God who created you for a purpose.

When someone says something like "“You have to make your own purpose", they are not referring to real purpose rather they are speaking of just a feeling. You can get feelings through various psychological tricks. For example, do something praiseworthy such as volunteer at a homeless shelter. Then praise yourself and accept the real and imagined praise of others. Your mind will connect the good feelings of self esteem with having a purpose.

But I'm not into psychological tricks so I prefer to seek God and therefore real purpose. I think our purpose is to seek our Creator, to find Him and to know Him forever.

To learn. Your experiences throughout your life are meant to teach you how to properly live, how to treat others, and how to take care of yourself. How long you live doesn't matter. This is highly controversial, but there are those who believe that a soul evolves through time, in many places and ways (earth life being one of them) until all negativity is overcome. At that time the soul returns to become one with God.

Obviously, many religions teach differently. This is one philosophy.

I believe there are tiers of heaven, from the one farthest away from God, to the One that is God. We choose to reincarnate in order to raise our position. To learn. The quickest way to learn what we need to know is in body. While in spirit, it takes much longer. Short version of a long answer.

Blessed Be
