Its common practice for Christians to use 'hearsay' to back up their beliefs. When one is not strong in their beliefs, they need back up!
Always trying to prove they're right. But ask one to delve into what true Paganism (broad scope) is, oooooooooh, scary. Yet, us Pagans are not afraid to read their bible, enter their churches, investigate their beliefs so we can make our OWN opinion, decisions, etc.. We're not afraid to experience their ways instead of accepting things we read and hear from just anyone as true. Yikes!

Sorry, I watched the 700 club off and on for a few years, but I can no longer stomach it. I've never watched cbn and have never heard of the site. But it is somewhat amusing.
I have a hard time believing that there are people who believe that they could get the "truth" about Wicca, Druids, or any other Pagan belief system from a Christian fundamentalist web site! It's idiocy.
It has the look and language of having been set up by a disgruntled teen. I can't believe that anyone would take it seriously. And if cbn actually lends its name to it, well, it makes them look bad, not any Pagans mentioned there.
As for looking for the truth. Asking a Christian, a Pagan, a Jew, a Muslim, etc. who would TELL you the truth is foolish. Because anyone that claims to have absolute truth (Pagans included) would have proved that they don't even know what it is by claiming to be able to give it to you. Few if any truths have any value without your having found them yourself.
Edit:
Sorry, but the fact that you have read posts from SOME Christians in which they cite this web site to back up some statement or other does not mean that ALL Christians either do the same, agree with those posters, or even agree with what is written in this site. I don't. I'm sure that there are many others who do not.
I have no need to defend the use of the site. I don't understand why anyone would use it as proof of anything. The site is idiotic.
You cannot make general statements about anyone, Christian, Muslim or Pagan and expect anyone to take you seriously. That goes for the site and your question.

Why do you lump everyone together like that? I know the difference between site, cite, AND sight...And I'm a Christian. Totally cool like that.
Anyway, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the CBN sponsored site is probably one of the first to come up when someone Googles a religious topic. That's probably the real reason you'll find it so often on here. People use what's handy to back up their arguments. It's not like we're being graded by a professor when it comes to answering questions on Yahoo.
With that said, I think it's silly to completely discount a person's argument simply because they cite this site. Just because you think it's a fundie site doesn't mean it's always going to be wrong. I'd honestly have to see specific instances in which you think the site is being misused by people on Answers, but then again, I don't actually care enough one way or the other. Your question caught my eye so I thought I'd take a gander at it.
On a side note, I don't think I've ever cited the site myself. I tend to avoid the R&S section though (even though I CAN get sucked in), because it's just full of people on all sides fighting. It's stupid. I don't think I've ever been taken seriously on here by someone who isn't a Christian, and I give pretty darn good arguments (with credible sources to back me up and everything). So...what's the use in arguing?

HI,
I am a Christian and I chose to watch Fox news. I personally don't watch CBN. I also don't watch many other television shows and news programs. If I want news that I believe I can trust in the evenings though I watch Fox. I am not afraid to say that it is indeed a fundamentalist Christian site. It is supposed to be. Pat Robertson is an evangelical Christian Pastor and that would make it a "fundie" (I believe that is the PC term used to describe Christians). I do believe that Pat Robinson is a good pastor and evangelist and that he tells the truth. As for asking a Pagan about the "truth" well your truth is just different than mine now isn't it? Have a lovely evening.

Terry, me boyo, take a deep breath.
While I have empathy for your irritation, this isn't the way to get anyone to decide to come ask us for the truth of what we believe or what we do.
As for why *some* Christians will believe that site, or believe whatever disinformation they get from others, well...I agree that it's a failing of intellectual honesty, but there's little we can do about it, and I don't think that this particular approach serves us well.
Remember, we are dealing, in *some* Christians, with the spiritual children of the folks who started the "blood libel" accusations against the Jews. I don't know how the Christians of the time could have believed THAT either, except that popular preachers promulgated the lie for their own, decidedly un-Christlike agenda.

I'm a Christian but I dont go to CBN. I have to wonder why you obsess so much about Christians and people who believe in God. Does it threaten you or harm you in some way? Do you ever talk about anything else?

I never heard of it, so it's safe to say I don't use it. Besides you know me, Terry. I'd rather look for the answer myself! And if it's "Fundie site" than, well that's what it is. Heck I'd rather research my answers through the good book WAY before I use a "website" to back what I say.
Oh STOP LYING to the people, Terry! I know your an Atheist. I just robbed your house and took your books! (LoL)

Oh, I finally looked at the site. Are you mad at it? It's so funny! Of course it's a 'cool-not-to-be-wiccian' site. But it's funny because it does exactly what some wiccian and anti-christian sites do... It sets up a straw-man to tear him down.
Do you know the straw-man argument? It's like a sucker punch. It starts with seemingly innocent talk about what you want the person not to believe, with the intention that after saying these seemingly innocent things, you won't like it anymore. Then you counter it with what you want them to believe... leaving the choice to them. Which, as with this site was, believe in commericialized, McDonaldesk wicca, or believe in the underground, no-holds-bar xianity.
Of course it's all foolish, it's all poor arguments aimed to trick rather than inform, but honestly I didn't see anything here any worse about Wicca than what you'd find on any anti-christian, anti-atheist, or anti-muslim website. It was simply a site to make kids think wicca's not as cool as they thought it was.

For the most part, I agree with you but if you want to engage in artful dialogue and argue with style then you should get the names correct. Its Pat Robertson, not Robinson. I agree that most christians hide behind fairy tales and lies, like democrats, but I can live with them. I'm not perfect and don't expect anyone to agree with me but I respect everyones right to they're opinion.

A 'cite' is a shortening of citation or what someone said, a 'site' is a place. Please get your facts straight before you hurl charges of wrong doing around because right now your in the wrong, alone.
