Every branch of the military has standards they have to follow for enlistment purposes. If they're "relaxing" some of those standards temporarily due to low recruitment, then that simply means they'll accept waivers for more things than they normally would.
My best advice for you is to choose which branch will provide for you the training and job opportunities you are most interested in, and think about which branch you would most like to serve within.
With a criminal record and a GED, you ARE going to have to work to get the enlistment through. There will be waivers in your future no matter which branch you join. The fact that you made some poor decisions in the past will not be helped by making this decision based on which branch is "easiest" to join... first try to enlist in the branch that will enable you to serve at your highest potential!

It depends on what your criminal record is for. The military can get waivers for certain things like drug use or speeding tickets. More serious stuff would be on a case by case basis. The fact that you have a GED means you're gonna need a waiver for any branch. Physically speaking, I'd say the National Guard. But don't join just cuz it's easy to, it won't be worth it no matter how much you get paid. Joining any branch is a big deal and life changing. Plus, chances are against you that you'll end up in Iraq or Afghanistan

RE:
What branch of the military is the easiest to join?
I have a criminal record and a GED. I've spoken to navy recruiters and I will need a bunch of wavers to join even though I got a 96 on the ASVAB. I recently heard that the army is offering large bonuses because re-enlistment is down. Does that mean that it is easier to get in?

Any branch would require a wavier, try the Marines, or wait a few months and try Army. Air Force is strict, and Coast Guard is too, so your options in my opinion is Marines or Army
I hope the best for you, I served in both Army and Air Force.
all branches have good and bad stuff to offer. So just call and ask, if that don't work out call Guard or Reserves.

national guard is without a doubt the easiest.... but, if ng is out of the question, its like this. From highest standards to Lowest standards.
Coast Guard
AirForce
Marines
Army
Navy
it was a tough call on the army vs navy.. im trying to think if i ever met a fat soilder... 350lb corpman in the navy are pretty much the norm...
All of the services will require waivers, and it depends on what you were arrested for. If it was for a drug offense, you can pretty much count military service out.
if it was something petty like theft, then theyll ok within a few weeks.

I have heard that the Army has lowered its requirements since they are having a hard time getting recruits. And giving waivers.

All branches of service are difficult to join if you are not qualified.

Army will require waivers, however with your score, the recruiter will try to find a way to get you in.

No it does not. You still need all those papers. Your considered a security risk until proven other wise. Pending on what it is for.
