I mean... who wants to look at someone elses food while they are eating it? I think it's so gross and almost everyone I know does it.

Yes, that is truly nasty. rofl, my brother used to chew with his mouth closed, but it was almost as bad as open, as he had rather thick, purplish lips, and nearly always took a drink of milk with his food, so there would be this nasty, slimy drool....

sorry 'bout the grossout there. I used to take my food upstairs to get away from him!

The 'Chewing Food with Mouth Open' appears to be a universal syndrome. Hence, we must take it upon ourselves (those of us who are disgusted with this somehow socially tolerated, centuries-long practice) and become exemplary of that which is true etiquette.

To do this, we need a mirror set before us during our meal. We all observe ourselves as we eat. The fun part is you may want to create a brand new style all your own, once you see how others may view you as you nibble your tastey morsels of food. Yummmmm.

I am in management where I work and everyday we all eat in the big conference room and the executive vice president makes a mockery of civilized dining. He wolfs his food down and smacks and his mouth is open the whole time. There have been times where I got up and walked out because I couldn't finish my lunch. One other vice president asked me why I don't eat in the conference room anymore and I was honest and told him. I also asked him if we should say something and he said no because the exec. would be insulted. Whats this world coming to?

That is a very nasty habit. And I don't think it's true when people say that the person may not realize they are doing it. You know when your mouth is closed and when it is open! That's pure BS. Oh, God, and people that chew with their mouth open SMACK! ARRGH!

When people chew with their mouth open, you can hear the food being masticated. The smacking drives me crazy.

Yes, but unless people learn the habit in childhood, polite eating is hard to gain later on.

Yes, I do and it violates all rules of etiquette. Everyone should own and read "Amy Vanderbilts Complete Book of Etiquette"
