Bought at 80,000 miles and symptoms started at about 95,000. Currently have 123,000. Hasn't got better nor worse. Question? When starting cold does not engage into reverse for about 4-5 seconds and then does so hard. Then when first driving, does not want to shift through gears from like 2nd thru 4th without rpms revving into the 3500-4500 rpm range before shifting gears. When the transmission fluid warms up, the symptoms mostly disappear. If I drive it casually at a casual acceleration it seems to shift thru...although sometimes hanging in a gear. If I hammer down on acceleration and go thru the gears it will almost always rev up the rpms and not change smoothly. Just replaced Transmission flud and the old was "said to be clean". After driving it this way for some 30,000 mile, it hasn't got worse. Is the Transmission going out our is there some adjustment that needs to be made? Thanks.

I have a '97 that exhibited the same symptoms until I changed the fluid and filter. Now it might be slow on shifting once every 2 weeks or so. I drove a '94 that did the reverse shift thing, and I found if i sit a second or so in neutral, that problem would go away.
The transmission is electronic, but it does have adjustments. (I don't own a transmission shop, but I work on anything mechanical.) When you change the fluid and filter, get someone to adjust the bands. If you are mechanical minded, get a Haynes or Chilton's manual and it will tell you how it is done. This will eliminate the slippage.
Dirty electrical connections are another problem with electronic anything. Get some good electronic contact cleaner, and some silicone grease. Unplug the plugs off the ECM and spray the plug and contacts liberally with the cleaner. After they dry, apply a bead of silicone grease around the plug and plug back in.
On the driver's side top of the transmission is another plug. You may have to get some way to clean all the dirt from around it first because the plug is vertical. After cleaning all the dirt from around it, do the same as with the ECM.
I have done this also, and I have 179,000 on my Dodge.

nicely the 1st situation is you have a 1500 witch ability you have self sufficient front suspension.... could desire to have went with a minimum of a 2500. i think of fabtech makes a enhance for a evade ram 1500. i think of you've got a no longer ordinary time looking a 8 inch raise for the 1500, without doing a sprint extreme trimming and mods. One sturdy situation is, with a mega cab, it particularly is long meaning little to no force line mods. sturdy success including your raise

Same problems on my 96 2500 at 90K. It got so bad it wouldn't shift out of 2nd unless I tached it out. Wound up rebuilding the trans. Problem solved. I would try what the other guy said first. You might save yourself several thousand if that's it.

My trans was toast. When they tore it down to rebuild it it looked like I was towing bulldozers everyday. Not pretty. And I did oil changes every 20K.

this transmission is completly electronic there are no adjustments......what you have is a sealing ring problem...not seals...... sealing rings.. there is a difference....the rubber rings inside the transmission are hard and do not expand til the transmission gets warm....the only way to fix this is.. put a very low mileage used transmission in...or have this one rebuilt...........
