I hurd of the flying pumpkin or something like that when I got on here it was hallarious to read but that is the first time I ever hurd anyone talking about a church like that weird.
Al hamdoullah Allah SWT tells us in the Quran that books of the faith are acceptable for their food, buildings and people. If we read the Quran you see it says right there we can all share together, so I think that is why Spiderman is disappointed because he works so hard, and gets so little reward remember the spiderweb is the weakest of homes and structures but if you spray some kevlar on it, wow! SubhanAllah, he is resting his computer took a serious dive! We had to delete the questions.. I think Ankaboot Aka Spiderman needs a nice long rest with those of the faith in brotherhood and peace inshAllah.

They get the ridiculous notions about the church from its own writings. They are so far off the wall that we cant make this up. We just repeat them.
Hinckley at a General Conference a few years ago said that the God of the Bible is not the God of the Book of Mormon. That is truth in advertising.

This is essentially your problem as you stated: "I've been a member of the LDS Church all my life and we never discussed these ideas in church and seminary."
I submit you are not very old, and have not read any of the talks and writings of early church leaders. While it is simple to claim that these writings are nothing more than 'opinions' (here we go again), they were meant to explain Smith's revelations in greater detail, and were taken for decades as inspired scripture. It made us feel we knew more than anyone else about the nature of god and christ, and it was NEVER disputed. Plus, while you may disagree with past A&P's pronouncements on the status of blacks, they did in fact fully intend that they were speaking about the WILL of GOD, and that it was unchangable.
You do understand that there is nothing in the Book of Mormon that defines the doctrine of the church - that's in the D&C and PoGP exclusively.

The Doctrine and Covenants
The Journal of Discourses
The Ensign
The Book of Mormon doesn't contain doctrine.

lots of these different points of doctrine come from past prophets or apostles, some come from the book Jesus the Christ, which is pretty difficult to understand for a beginner, and others are quotes.
There was a quote from a prophet, I forget who, but he said, "As man is now, God once was; As God is now, man may be." Ask your seminary teacher and he should be able to give you the exact quote if I got it wrong and who it came from.
I would suggest going to this website, www.fairlds.org, and look for your questions there, its a great non-anti-Mormon website. it gives lots of answers to weird doctrine that people either make-up or distort.
many people will try and make you disbelieve what you know by asking weird things about the Church but remember that the Church is true. There is an answer for everything, it just takes some time to study and learn.
EDIT*** talldude's info....., it's a bunch of distorted crap. They make it sound crazy.Stick to that website I gave.

The things you are talking about are found in Doctrines and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price, 2 of the books that supplement the Book of Mormon.

They take a little piece of information and don't like it so they twist it to make it say what they want it to. Kinda like some churches do with the Bible. It's a fear of the unknown. Their "ignorance" (not meant derrogatory) is their biggest problem.

Not sure about the Planet thing, but Mormon leaders have historically taught that Jesus’ incarnation was the result of a physical relationship between God the Father and Mary.
They believe Jesus is a God, but that any human can also become a "god."
Contrary to Mormon belief, Christians historically have taught that God is Triune and that He exists eternally as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).
Contrary to common Mormon beliefs, here are some excerpts from scripture that appear to disprove their view of Jesus, in addition to the God and Mary thing....:
__No one can achieve the status of God, only He is holy (1 Samuel 2:2).
__We can only be made holy in God's sight through faith in Him (1 Corinthians 1:2).
__Jesus is the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16) and is the only one ever to have lived a sinless, blameless life, who now has the highest place of honor in Heaven (Hebrews 7:26).
__Jesus and God are one in essence, Jesus being the only One existing before physical birth (John 1:1-8, 8:56).
___Jesus gave Himself to us as a sacrifice, and God raised Him from the dead, and one day everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:6-11).
__Jesus tells us it is impossible to get to Heaven by our own works, only with faith in Him is it possible (Matthew 19:26).
...and many will not choose Him. “You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way” (Matthew 7:13).
Though abandoned by modern Mormon leaders, Brigham Young taught that Adam actually was God and the father of Jesus Christ. Christians know this about God:
__there is only One true God (Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10, 44:6-8),
__that He always has and always will exist (Deuteronomy 33:27, Psalm 90:2, 1 Timothy 1:17),
__and that He was not created, but is the Creator (Genesis chapter1, Psalm 24:1, Isaiah 37:16).
__ONLY He is perfect and no one else is equal to Him (Psalm 86:8, Isaiah 40:25).
__God the Father is not a man, nor was He ever (Numbers 23:19, 1 Samuel 15:29, Hosea 11:9).
__He is Spirit (John 4:24), and Spirit is not made of flesh and bone (Luke 24:39).
Good luck in your search.
PS : High fly, it sounds crazy, because some of the stuff they believe IS crazy.
Bama_ild quoted this: "The birth of the Savior was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood- was begotten of his Father, as we are of our fathers. (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, 8:115)...are you kidding me?
Thanks for proving my point (see above.)
