Yes people have tresspassed and were detained by the security forces (AKA Camo Dudes). The Security Forces are really a special department of Wackenhut Security under contract to EG&G defence contractors.

Yes Deadly force is authorized. but in reality not used.

Sensors spaced out in the deseret alert the camo dudes long before you get near the actual border, you will be under constant surveillance long before you can "step across the line".
As soon as you do "step across" you will be detained and handed over to the Lincoln county Sheriff's Dept. with felony trespassing charges.

these Borders are far enough away from the actual base with intervening ridges that you are in no danger of seeing anything before the Camo dudes can arrest you.

Anyone who has managed to elude security long enough to get INTO the base area beyond the borders.... well, remember that "Deadly Force Authorized"?

No one has ever come back out claiming to have ever done so.

some sites that show photos etc, of Area 51 security.

Oh Ken you took my reply.
I was going to say that Elvis was eating a cheeseburger and that Jim Morrison and JFK caught him at the entrance.

There are people that are allowed there. They work there. If you do try to trespass they detain you. It's heavily guarded.

The so called security guards aren't there to play games.

So to answer your question, it's NO. they have not had a successful breach of security.

People trespass there all the time. You even see them doing it on television shows about UFO nuts. Area 51 has become too famous to be used for really classified projects. Now it seems only the die-hard conspiracy nuts or UFO chasers want to see the place. The military still uses the air field for testing aircraft though.

Like all military installations, the guards are authorized to use lethal force to protect it. But like all military installations, unless you are trying to blow it up or shooting at people they aren't going to kill you for trespassing.
