i bought camcorder four years ago which cost me around $1200. it is sharp viewcamZ model #VL-Z8U.

i was recording niagara falls in a boat (haha...) and water got in. now my tape dosen't go in and even something is wrong with power.


is fixing this product would be better way or buying a new one is better way?
which cost more?
how much is a new camcorder which uses mini DV tapes?
oh and this camcorder uses mini DV tapes.

You would be better off purchasing a new one if your camera is no longer under warranty. It can cost upwards of $200 just for a technician to open it up just to asess the damage and then provide you with an estimate. With cameras and new technology coming out ever so fast you could probably get a better camera for 1/3 to 1/5 of what you paid for your previous one. If you purchase at Best Buy, consieder the 4 year serrvice plan. Its not a warranty, its a service plan and its money well spent if you think you might have another accident. Plus if BB ever goes out of business your still covered as the service plans are third party, unlike circuit city and the infamous Good Guys who back their own.... Anyway, sell the camera on ebay for parts, explain what happened, someone will still probably buy it.

i have splashed a number of recorders when rafting. usually they recover after getting thoroughly dry. Have you tried again recently? use a fresh battery as that may be the reason the tape drawer does not open.
