It sounds like something very hard to do. He cant even talk straight and was a straight C student. How was he able to manage a highly complex cockpit reserved for the best of the best in this country?

He did take flying lessons, and he had his picture taken while wearing a flight suit and sitting next to a jet, but it's similar to having your picture taken while sitting on a pony.

Oh, and then there was that "mission accomplished" landing he made (as a PASSENGER) onto that aircraft carrier. Remember the one where he didn't undo the parachute straps between his legs after he got down from the airplane?

He qualified as a pilot on the F-106 aircraft. He also volunteered for Palace Alert. This was a program which assigned Air Guard personnel to duty in the Indochinese Theater of Operations during the Vietnam War. Unofortunately, the air frame he trained on and became qualified to fly was supplanted in Palace Alert by more modern aircraft.
FYI, over 50,000 Air Guard and National Guard served in Vietnam. One National Guard artillery unit from West Virginia was one of the most highly decorated units in that war. I'm sorry Dan Rather didn't get around to telling that story before he blew the story about President Bush's record of military service.

Ryan,

Yes George W Bush did serve in the Air National Guard and Yes he flew Fighters.

His Father, Bush Sr. flew Torpedo Bombers in WW2 against the Japanese.

And just because his Guard unit did not deploy into combat when he was assigned there does not make Bush a "Draft Dodger" like so many of you liberals try to claim.

Vietnam took place during the height of the cold war. Thousands of our soldiers were stationed to units in Germany, Italy, England, etc... They never went to Vietnam either because they were not assigned there. Does that make them Draft Dodgers?

No it doesn't.

A Draft Dodger is a person who is NOT serving in the miltary, Whose draft number IS CALLED ON in the draft lottery, and who FAILS to SHOW UP for indoctrination (Boot Camp)
This is EXACTLY what happened to you liberals favorite prez... Slick Willy Clinton.

Other than Clinton, you have to go all the way back to the 1930's and Franklin Delano Roosevelt to find a President who has NOT served in the Military in some capacity. And FDR had an excuse. He was stricken with polio and confined to a wheelchair.

What was Bill's excuse?

You are confused, Ryan.

W was in the Texas Air National Guard during VietNam, which has been held up to ridicule by the left. He did pilot military jets.

W's father, "41" joined the Navy on his 18th birthday and served in the Pacific Theatre. Upon his graduation from pilot training, he was the youngest naval aviator in history.

On one mission his plane was shot down and he was rescued. His men were also rescued, but the plane was lost in the sea.

He was nineteen years old.

George Bush also has a Master's degree in Business from Wharton's business school (see Harvard). He flew the F-106 Delta Dagger. Not a fun aircraft to fly. Too tempermental.

when pressured to provide proof W wasn't AWOL during Viet Nam, all he could provide was a single dental record.
