Do you think it should be mandatory to hand out a book for all Teens to read about how US parents just KNOW what is best for them. We do know what they do we have our own Parental Radar.. we can almost read them like a book because we have been Teens ourselves... I feel like children forget about this ... that we we NOT born yesterday.. Oh and that we do have eyes in the back of our head! LOL. Moral of story... when they get our age they will stop and think about how RIGHT we were.. then they will appriciate us... till then I smile ALOT!

Obviously, some people can't read.. this is a question for Parents of Teens.

I guess a subliminal message in a video game would be the answer then not a book!!!

Hey, kids!

Lose the attitude and the READ the fact that this question was addressed to PARENTS! Oh, and this is what's called SARCASM - in other words, the asker was not serious about forcing anybody to read anything (that's impossible). She's making a point using humor! Oh, and she's right, too. When you guys grow up and live in the same world we do, you'll understand. Now quit rolling your eyes and BELIEVE me. It's true. The world is far more complex and compelling than who's got the coolest Bratz doll or can sing every song from High School Musical!
And no, I don't hate teenagers, just some of their "I know everything because I'm EIGHTEEN" attitudes. Since when is 18 years of experience superior to 40? Pay more attention in math class.

Hey, I love all you guys, and someday you'll be just like us adults.

No, forcing them to read something will get nowhere, they have already made up their minds and would miss the point as you can tell by some of the responses here already. It takes the real world to wake them up, my son is in his 3rd week of Basic Training and now we are getting letters about what he misses about home and family. Never thought I would hear that, it's amazing what a Drill Sergeant can do to your perspective.

In the defense of the kids, some parents also need a good book on parenting, but I doubt they would read it either.

Yeah, as if they would read it! Maybe hide something in a computer file somewhere so they can hunt it down, as a challenge!
Yes, it's unfortunate it takes SO long to figure things out - but weren't we the same with our parents? Gosh, I think of all the fights I had with mine when I was a teen ... how embarrassing to even think of that now!
I have a 15 year old son, and luckily he's currently very respectful and still DOES believe I have eyes in the back of my head - as well as some bizarre psychic ability to know not only what he IS up to, but what he's THINKING of doing!!! He knows to watch his step; he's a good kid!
Does it reverberate in any other parents' heads - the "just wait til you have kids!" that my mom used to tell me?? Of course she was right (about practically everything!).

hey beautiful

sweet heart i think you are right !!! these children forget that we were once like them.. they dont understand that what they are doing now and thinking/ feeling we have already done before them...

i think when they grow up and get into the real world they would know that everything we do and say to them is for their own good.. that we dont want to ruin their lives but just help them make the decisions that we know they wont regret later on...

and yes ive told them many times that i can read minds and that ive got eyes at the back of my head and they dont believe till i give them examples of something that they have done.. their reaction... jaws dropped to the floor.. lol

wishig you the best in all !!

I'm not a parent but I gotta say not ALL parents no what's best. Like, my dad said when he was a kid he had a friend who had a mom who was crazy and all she would do all day was smoke cigarettes and walk around their dining room table and talk to herself. So, she didn't know what was best, since she was crazy. And what about abusive parents? They definitely do not know what's best for their kids.

And by the way, us teens aren't stupid we know you don't have eyes in the back of your head that's something that you tell little kids(I mean little like 4 or 5).

Yeah parents do know what's best for their kids sometimes, but not all of them do. And some of them just don't understand their teens(like Will Smith said =])

No I dont think it should be mandatory...here is why...

first they will not read it unless it is text form on youtube in video form or somehow introduced into Halo 3.Ha ha...

Second, I think it is interesting to see how they use the same lines, the same stories and such as we did in the very same situations.

It is a nice idea but all of this is just part of growing up, and I just remind my son that the more he tries to get away with, it will come back to haunt him three fold. Oddly enough he sees that with his cousin so it is one lesson he has paid attention to...

Good thought though :)

Having grown up in a very large family and looking back on what we did to our parents, I figure my kids are getting back at me for what I did to my parents.

At least my oldest is 24 now, but he gave me a lot of gray hair in the process to adulthood.

No! The government has no right to force kids to read books telling them lies. Some people may be good parents, but some suck and do what is best for their selfs.

No, my 17yrs daughter pretty much already knows that. We have a fantastic realationship and very rarely does she go against my word. The few times she has, she looked at me with that look that says "Please don't say I told you so."
