The original 12 Apostles are registered here:
Mateo 10:2-4
Marcos 3:16-19
Lucas 6:13-16

In Acts 1:20-26, Matthias is the person who replaces Judas, the Apostle who betrays Jesus, but in (Romans 1:1, 11:13; 1 Corinthians 1:1, 9:1-2, etc.) Paul says he is an Apostle also, making a total of 13 Apostles at the end.

So is Paul an apostle now? If so, how did he become one? Who chose him to be an Apostle? Some Biblical teachers “invalidate” Matthias as a member of the 12 apostles, and in his place they believe that the Apostle Paul was chosen by God to take the place of Judas as the twelfth Apostle. What’s going on?

There were several other apostles listed in the New Testament besides the Twelve.
The Twelve were sent mainly to the Jews.
Besides Paul, Barnabas is called an apostle in Acts 14:4,14.
See also Romans 16:7; I Corinthians 12:28,29; etc.

Those 24 seats that surrounds the throne. Rev.4:4 is those 12 Apostles, & the 12 Jewish or I can say the 12 tribes of Israel, Paul will NOT be One of those that sits on those 24 seats, Many thinks that the new Jerusalem is a literal city coming down,But lets see what this New Jerusalem really is, Rev. 21:1-2 & 9-10. I will just skip around you can read it all in Rev. chapter 21, And I saw a new heaven & a new earth-----2:And I John saw the holy city new Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven--------(: Come hither, I will show thee the Bride, The Lambs wife, 10: And he carry me away & shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem. So the Holy New Jerusalem is not a literal city, but it is the Bride coming back with Christ to rule & reign. So Paul will not be one of those 12 Apostles that sits in those seats around the throne, But Yes Paul will help Christ to rule & reign as also will the Bride of Christ will, That includes people like me & anyone that is truly Born again, & are walking in God's Truth.

There are two groups of people in the sight of God. Jews, who were the Israelites; and the Gentiles, people outside of Israel.

Paul was the apostle to the Gentiles.... the 12 Apostles were for Jews who will judge the 12 tribes of Israel in the Future.

Paul's calling was from Acts 9. In the road to Damascus where Christ Revealed to Him personally.. There he was commissioned as an apostle, not for the 12 tribes of Israel, but for the Gentiles.

Eph 3:1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus in behalf of you Gentiles,

If you are a Gentile, then Paul is your steward. Just know where your part is in the Scriptures.

2 Timothy 2:15. Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

because no where does it say that there would only be 12 apostles forever. There were many more apostles, and continue to be so today.

Greek- apostolos: (as in Rom.1:1)
1) a delegate, messenger, one sent forth with orders

1Cr 9:5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and [as] the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

1Cr 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

1Cr 12:29 [Are] all apostles? [are] all prophets? [are] all teachers? [are] all workers of miracles?

It's a calling/job from God according to His plan for you.

An apostle is simply another term for a disciple. We can be apostles today, if we do what Yahshua commanded us to do: sell all your things, give to the poor, pick up your cross and follow Him.
I also agree with the previous post about Paul on the road to Damascus.

My understanding is that Jesus intended there to be 12 of these special witnesses. Judas killed himself, leaving an opening.

Although I'm not sure exacly HOW Paul was accepted into the group.... Maybe they had a meeting and invited him?

Simple. He met Jesus. He was sent out by Jesus. Thus he meets the requirements for being an apostle.

If I remember correctly, Paul referred to himself this way, and he justified that by considering his experience on the road to Damascus as a resurrection appearance, like the other apostles were held to have had.
