Fundies who roll on the floor spouting gibberish while the pastor screams bigotry from the pulpit.
I attended an AoG church for almost a year.

There are different groups among Pentecostals, just like any other belief.
The most distinguishing feature is that Pentecostals believe in a second touch from the Holy Spirit that is separate and distinct from receiving the Holy Spirit in salvation.
Everyone who is born again receives a measure of the Holy Spirit.
The apostles first received the Holy Spirit in John chapter 20 when Jesus breathed on the them and said "Receive the Holy Spirit". They were born again at this point, believing in the resurrection of Jesus from the dead and in His divinity. This happened on the evening of the day Jesus was raised from the dead.
Nevertheless He told them to remain in Jerusalem until they received the promise of the Father. This was something greater, and it was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost when they were all filled with the Holy Spirit aand began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Pentecostals believe this to be a valid experience yet today, and around the beginning of the Twentieth Century, a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit began, and people again started getting baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. They also received great boldness to witness, and experienced the power of God in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as healings and miracles and dreams and visions and other supernatural manifestations of the power of God.
For more information, find an Assembly of God Church, or a any other Church that believes in and preaches the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

I was raised Pentecostal. This is a Christian Denomonination that believes like most other Christian Churches. The distinguishing factors in Pentecostalism are: the belief that the infilling with the Holy Spirit is a distinctive event/gift accompanied by the evidence of speaking in "tongues". They also believe that the Spirit can come on you and you will be moved to shout, laugh, run, dance, prophesy, and perhaps even roll on the floor. These are the main things that make Pentecostals different in their worship than other groups. Other than that they are just like every other church......Blessings!

Pentecostal is not a sect, it is a christian denomination that as others have said here is just like any other christian churches. The difference is in worship, pentecostals believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues, other than that there are just like any other protestant church.

Sometimes people think Pentecostal always means the United Pentecostal Church,It doesn't, the people that believe in the "gift" and "gifts" of the Holy Spirit that was given to the disciples on the Day of Pentecost(celebration) call themselves Pentecostal.

Pentecostals are Bible believing Christians who actually believe the whole Bible. When the Bible refers to miracles, they believe it. When the Bible says the believers spoke in tongues they never learned they not only believe it but they say to the Lord, "I want that too!"
According to Barna Research, the Pentecostal denominations, and there a lot of them, are the most Biblical in their beliefs.
And keep in mind that George Barna is not a Pentecostal.
Put another way, Pentecostals believe that the miracles of the Holy Spirit should be operational in the church today just like they were in the first century church.
Read the book of Acts and First Corinthians chapters 12 and 13 and 14.

Since the word refers to Pentecost, or the occasion of the holy spirit coming upon the apostles, I believe it's a group who relies more on experiences of the holy spirit than other forms of worship.
I'm not sure "sect" is the right word. It's a movement, a group, but within other protestant religions.

to my knowledge there are 2 kinds of pentecostals. trinitarian pentecostals and apostolic pentecostals (monotheistic).
trinitarian pentecostals are veeeery close to baptists, sometimes exactly.
apostolic pentecostal is what I am. The best description can be found at upci.org or pawinc.org. In a nutshell we believe God manifested himself in bodily form took on the sins of the world, died, overcame death, then poured out his spirit into others, initially on the day of pentecost. Traditional pentecostals believe that when you recieve the Holy Ghost, you speak another language. Speaking in tongues is primarily the reason for the denomination as the Catholic church weeded out truths about the power of God and persecuted them.

Of or pertaining to the day of Pentecost when the believers first received "power from on high" (Luke 24:49) and 1st spoke in tongues manifesting that power of God after the death, resurrection and ascention of Jesus Christ.
There are different denominations of Pentecostals but as I understand it they believe in the power that I mentioned above and that it is available in this our day and time to anyone who does Romans 10:9 (confessing Jesus Christ as lord and believing in your heart-innermost part of the mind-that God raised Jesus Christ from the dead).
