I personally do not agree with almost all of these things, they defeat the purpose of being a true Christian and not the other way around. As for pilgrimages, I see them more like 'retreats' to places like 'Israel for example to see things that have to do with ancient times. I would also have to choose it myself to go there and i wouldn't like it to be a part of a religion where i must go to visit large mansions or deceased Popes, etc.
Also note that most Christians 'grow' up in these denominational churches and easily become the blind sheep who follow the leader and are blindly led into the ditch. recitals, and some readings are taken out of the Bible and twisted and then taught to children which in return grow up and continue in this destructive path and blindly support the lavish lifestyles of the Vatican while being led astray.
We are not even encouraged to read our Bibles personally at church. We are taught again and again the death of out saviour, etc. without being clearly informed of what it was all for. The Good News is barely touched while things like the Ten Commandments are divided and subdivided, the holidays' festivals twisted and the list goes on. Everything seems to be man made even religion and is the devil's way of keeping us all in bondage. I am so sick of the kind of life most of us are living and can't wait to break free. Realizing God comes from the heart and all it takes is a sound mind whose willing to change for the better. God bless you as He's blessing me

Oh how I wish it were that easy, you must seek within your silence. There is a purpose for these practices, it's not that they make you holy, but they do make a place for holiness to happen. Any discipline is a tool that must be used to wake you up, help you stay more God centered. But if that discipline becomes rote or if the discipline becomes rigid the real purpose is lost. So it depends on the focus & purpose of the person doing the discipline. In my tradition we use any number of disciplines to wake up. Any thing that requires a change in your normal behavior will work, but if it ever becomes discipline for disciplines sake, or we have lost mindfulness, wakefullness, or our God center {which ever term you prefer} the whole purpose of the discipline is lost & no longer of any value.

These all are different sorts of spiritual practises founded by our ancestors, what ever suits to one's mind-set that they can adapt. Ultimately result is the same that to reach the abode of god. Realisation depend upon the sincerity of one's approach. If prayers are sincere, no doubt, realisation is not an impossible task. Valmiki uttered the name of Rama, in reverse and chanted "Mara Mara" . God didn't take the pronunciation, but he received bhakti of Valmiki and gifted him with supreme wisdom.

I would prefer taking care of my parents and fulfilling there requirements rather than doing all such things. If I can't keep my family happy, whats the point in realising God.

they are just pious practices of devotions but not an end by themselves. Attaining God is denying yourself, taking up ur cross and following Him till the end of life.

Only if you know what you are doing; using them as a kind of mantra to disengage from the ego thought system.

it really depends what god is to yourself
there are many ways to realise god
what god is or isnt,
each one of us is unique
and each person has to personally experience and understand what god is to themselves
many journeys to god, many paths to discovering god,but it truly is unique for each one of us,how we do it doesnt really matter
