He is a 6 month old west highland white terrier. He goes for plenty of walks. However, he shreads newspapers, bites me, jumps up and grabs anything, and does not listen. What things should i do to make him better behaved. I love him so much but he's a stubborn brat. And I'm not interested in a dog trainer. Thanks!

Why is everyone so caught up on getting a trainer. You act like its the miracle solution to all dog problems. Dogs don't need trainers. I don't want a show dog that does tricks and etc. i just want a happy friendly dog. If you have any tips on how I can do this MYSELF they would be greatly apreciated. thanks to all who listened to my question!

You want him trained but don't want a trainer? If you knew what to do, you would have already trained him! You need someone experienced to help. Seek a trainer!

your dog is a puppy, thats what pups do especially when bored. If you want him to be happy and you to be happy take him to obedience classes. Shelters/private individuals & places like petsmart/petco offer services. its lots of fun and you and your pet will be better for doing it. Don't be stubborn and bratty like your pup when you say you won't use a trainer. Its obvious you want some help otherwise you wouldn't have asked.
Best wishes

His behavior tells me that he doesn't respect you or view you as the pack leader. Since you are unwilling to go the extra mile and seek professional guidance in this area, don't expect any miracles.
