1. buy a stethoscope and a sphygomanometer
2. wrap the cuff of the sphygmomanometer around the upper arm, with the tubing coming down over the artery inside the elbow
3.turn the knob on the sphy. counterclockwise, but not too tight.
4. put the earpieces of the stethoscope in your ears
5. place the "bell" (other end) of the stethoscope over the inner elbow area.
6. pump the cuff up by squeezing the "bulb" till the numbers on the machine go to at least 160
7. allow the air out of the sphyg. bladder slowly by turning the knob counterclockwise slowly
8. listen for a beating sound; when you hear it, that is the systolic blood pressure
9. keep listening till the beating stops. The number where you heard the last beat is the diastolic blood pressure
10. let the rest of the air out of the bladder (cuff)
11. remove cuff

if you didn't hear the beats, wait 5 minutes before trying again, or use other arm

you may also need to pump the bulb to a higher number. If you do get a real high blood pressure, call 911

OK-explain to the person that your going to take their blood pressure and how it will be done, and that it doesn't hurt.

1 Take the BP from the left arm, find a quiet place roll up the sleeve or take off any tight shirt. rest in a chair for 5 mins with your left arm should rest comfortably at heart level place your left forearm on a table.
2.Locate the pulse, secure the cuff and in flate and deflate the cuff hold the pressure Gage in your left hand and close the air flow valve on the bulb by turning the screw. clockwise.
3.Inflate the cuff by squeezing the bulb with your right hand. watch the Gage keep inflating the cuff until the Gage reads about 30 points about the expected systolic pressure you should not hear the heart beat through the stethoscope.
4.Keeping your eyes on the Gage slowly release the pressure in the cuff by opening the airflow valve counter clockwise slowly Listen carefully for the first pulse beat as soon as you hear it note the reading on the Gage.this reading is your systolic pressure continue to slowly deflate the cuff listen carefully until the sound disappears as soon as you cant hear the pulse beat (note the reading that is your diastolic reading allow the cuff to deflate completely.
If you don't hear the heart beat. DO NOT INFLATE THE CUFF RIGHT AWAY.wait for 1 minute before repeating
Inflate the cuff and try again after 1 min.

You can buy a blood pressure measuring machine from your local pharmacy for about $50-150.

Once you buy it, read the instruction booklet before using this device. It is very simple !
