Also, will it affect the performance of the speaker?

As stated above, there is no way you could hear the difference one way or the other. One down side to the pin approach is that if it's a non-ported or small ported speaker enclosure, you may end up creating a place for the pressure wave inside the cabinet to escape, creating a hissing or whistling sound (although this is VERY unlikely, I have seen it happen).

The method some experts swear by is using a shop vac... Just turn it on, and gently place the hose over the dented area and let the suction pull it out. Be gentle though as the dust cover can come off or tear quite easily with some speaker cone types (paper in particular). There is no perfect solution, but between this and the suggestion above, you should be able to do your best, and done carefully, no harm will come to the speaker at all.

Yes it will affect performance but only slightly, you will not be able to hear the difference, only by using a frequency analyzer would you be able to tell a difference. I have tried to perfect a method for this problem over the last four years, the best thing that you can do is to use a pin that has been bent at a right angle with a pliers about a quarter inch long, insert the point, straighten the pin so that the bent part pulls the dome(otherwise known as a dust cover) up.

Hi. There are several ways of doing this depending on the material used for the cap.A dented soft dome can be popped back out by using a vacuum cleaner. You have to be careful not to touch the dome with the vacuum hose.Hold back the speaker cone with your fingers to avoid damage through excessive cone excursion .Another way with a soft dented dome is to suck through a tube to pull it back. If the dome is made of plastic (not paper) you can try using adhesive tape to pull the dust cover back out while holding the speaker cone back with your fingers .Metal domes are impossible to restore.
