The laptop is going to be used for everyday web browsing, and the Home Theater is going to be used for mostly music.

go for the home theater PC.... as you most likely have an XP box... while vista may be a bloated operating system.. the hardware required to run vista is alot more advanced, and faster then the technology needed to operate XP... i recommend getting as large of a HD as possible, as once you find websites like stage6.divx.com and the others listed on ovguide.com you are going to want to use it more for video and movies then music...

also... get a DVI video card, and a DVI to HDMI cable to connect the PC to your HDTV, then you will need a wireless keyboard and mouse...

every TV in my house is connected to a PC on my network...

A home theater system has a longer life span than a Laptop, it all depends how long you have had your laptop. Remember, nowadays, a laptop or desktop computer, can become obsolete within months, unless you upgrade. So I say a Home theater system for now.

I would go with the Home Theater System and there is nothing wrong with being spoiled. You can share the system with all your friends and have a really good time together.

well, if you are going to listen to mostly music, you are wasting alot of money buying a home theater. Also traditional stereo setups sound better with music than home theater can because they don't have all the surround sound processing that injects excess noise into the music. I suggest you buy a simple stereo receiver with a pair of good bookshelf speakers or tower speakers.

here's some components i recommend.
