Until you can get both dogs fixed, try putting vicks vapor rub on your male's nose. This will mute the scent so he is not going so crazy. He will start eating when she is no longer in "standing" heat, meaning breedable. As soon as you can, get them both taken care of. Everyone will be happier.

Let me assure you that it gets worse every time.

My male dachshund lost 3 pounds (he's a mini) the second time my female was in heat - he had no interest in food, water, or anything but the female.
It was impossible, I had him neutered and the female spayed - no reason to breed while there are so many looking for homes - and we have had peace ever since, and lovely, well adjusted dogs.

Get yours spayed and neutered - they'll be so much happier, and so will you.

why would you have two dogs that aren't neutered? that is just plain irresponsible, especially with different breeds.

get them both neutered & you won't have all these problems, the dogs will be much healthier & happier.

dogs have been known to chew through walls to get to females in heat.

Please know that they thousands of suffering dogs right now in shelters because of irresponsible breeding. There are many low cost spay and neuter clinics that are options!

Its normal. You can separate them completely, or just wait it out.

Better yet, get the female fixed.

Your dog probably needs a laxative to clean his system out. He probably will get his appetite back after you do that. He might have worms in his belly. He'll be fine, no need to worry!!!
