I have a question about military vacations. Does my 30 days include weekends? I ask because I want to take my 2.5 days per month, but I'd like to take it over a weekend... otherwise I can't go where I want (which would be Brazil... but it's a 19 hour flight... that kind of takes up my vacation unless I can go over the weekend).

I have a question for you. Why would you want to spend 2 days flying to and from a destination that will allow you only 1/2 day to enjoy yourself? Doesn't make much sense to me. You must apply for your leave a few weeks in advance and wait to have it approved, you cannot go over a weekend with 2.5 days of leave times because you are on duty 24/7 so weekends are duty days whether or not you have work to do.

This is very confusing. You want to take 2.5 days of leave each month? You can't take a half day of leave. You are allowed to accumulate up to 60 days of leave as to allow longer vacations than 2 days per month. Anyway, unless you're deployed or on call you get weekends off without using leave. As for leave, if you're leave period covers a weekend, those days count against your balance.

yes it covers every day, even weekends and Federal holidays where you would normally be 'off'
Most Leave time starts at end of business the day you leave(typically Fridays) and ends at 0000 the day you are due back.
FIRST however, you have to make sure you will be ALLOWED to Take leave, and if you can even go to Brazil. It may be on the State Department List of off limits locations. You would also be required to do the anti terrorism brief and perhaps other hoops if you have a Clearance.

If leave is used in conjunction with the weekend, then the weekend has to be used as leave time as well..... Save you leave for a few months then take a couple weeks straight.

If you take leave, you must take leave for any weekends you are gone too. If you would be gone WED-SUN, that's 5 days of leave. Because you are basically on-duty/on-call 24 hours a day, every day you are gone is counted as leave.
