I am planning a trip with 7 of my friends during Xmas week Dec 25 - Jan 2, and I have gotten the great deals in both steamboat and keystone, yet I do not know which one has better ski slopes, nightlife, lifts, overall experience... pleas convince me one over the other! Thanks a bunch!

Go with the Boat! I can't confirm or deny costs because I rarely pay to ski anymore. I've never skied Keystone but I've been to the resort. I have been to Steamboat. Steamboat Springs has better Apres Ski...and Hot Springs up in the mountians. There is also a great steakhouse in Steamboat Springs. I couldn't find much to write home about when I was in Keystone.

I have skied Keystone and not Steamboat. Keystone was really nice, better than I had expected. The trails are challenging and there is some wood skiing. The lodges and lifts are really Nice. I have never been to Steamboat but I hear a lot of good things about it. I think the advantage for Keystone is you can try several other mountains which are close by such as Breckenridge, Arapaho Basin and Cooper Mountain. To the best of my knowledge, there are no other ski areas close to Steamboat.

I have never been to Keystone Resort, but I have been to Steamboat, and it is amazing. The slopes are great, I'm pretty sure you can pay to ski before it opens with some directors of the resort. And the food is great! Theres also a horse and sleigh ride which, though however cold it may be, is a great experience to go because at the end, you get to have food in a nice little cabin, homemade and everything. And theres even a singer, who I had a great chance to sing with. So, yes, I'd say Steamboat is a great place to go.

These other folks are right; Keystone will offer better/more family terrain. J Hole is by far a better resort with more expert terrain. But if you have little kids who are beginners, or if none of you are advanced skiers J Hole is not the best place to be. I don't like Keystone at all, but its an ideal location. Plus if you are staying off the mountain, you'll probably be staying in Dillon. From there you'll have access to Breck and A Basin. In fact, forget Keystone and just go to Breck!

Doesn't matter. Just pick one, and you'll be fine. As long as there's snow, it's on.
