Get Drontal from the vet. $10 a pill and kills all worms. It wouldn't hurt to put Frontline on him for the fleas which is where he probably got the worms from in the 1st place. The WalMart/Petsmart wormer is useless.

I adopted 2 strays who both had tapeworm.
I began dosing their food with MSM and/or GSE every day.
Within 1 week, there were no more sign of tapeworms.
MSM is an oxygenator (among other things),
and parasites don't like a well-oxygenated host!
GSE actually kills some forms of parasites.
MSM = methylsulfonylmethane, a natural substance
GSE = GrapeFruit Seed Extract
(Both are sold in HFSs.)
If one cat has parasites, the other may also. It won't hurt to give --each of them-- both MSM & GSE for many days in a row.
I use liquid GSE, (already diluted in glycerin),
1 drop GSE per 10 lbs body weight.
(As long as the cat doesn't react negatively to grapefruit, it is safe.)
The MSM amount varies. If the animal gets too much, it may have loose stools, & that's probably all. (Very rarely does a person react with HBP --or anything else-- from MSM.)
There are also herbs that are used as dewormers, but some of them can be toxic, when used incorrectly.
You are to be commended for your conscientious, kitty-caring attitude! (;

Not really, you cant give him de-worming medication since you dont know for sure if he has worms [he sounds like he does though]
So your only option is to take him to the vet as soon as you can, after the weekend. Keep your cats seperate.
Best of luck to you!

Your cat has tapeworms, These are caused by ingesting a flea that has the tapeworm egg. Call your vet on Monday and give this description. He/she should prescribe a medication for these worms. You should then purchase some sort of flea preventative. It only takes 1 flea! Good luck! :)

i would go to the store, and get some cat dewormer. follow the directions, and give it to BOTH cats. later, after the treatment, you can get them checked at the vets.

Sounds like tapeworm. I think you could probably wait until monday to take him to the vet, I don't think this is an emergency, although incredibly gross, it can wait 'til monday. You definitely want to take him to the vet though.

It's a tapeworm segment--actually an egg sac called a "proglottid", and is not the worm itself. It can be treated OTC--you need pills called praziquantel. Dose according to weight. He got them from eating an infected flea. They are rarely dangerous and are not contagious.
