Somehow, I think there has been less change in the Church than you think there has been. Perhaps you are simply becoming more aware of how things are done in the Church, and accidently assume certain practices started the moment you found out about them?

Let's go through your thing, piece at a time:

Substance abuse is as old as the substances themselves. There were intoxicating beverages in Biblical times, so you can be sure there was also abuse of these intoxicating substances. Drugs? Of course. While they weren't "drugs" as we consider them today, there were potentially abuseable substances back in Biblical times.

Because of this, I guarantee that the Church considered it from the get-go.

Substance abuse has been with us as long as the substances themselves. While the nature of the substance, as well as it's abuse, has changed over time, substance abuse in general, is older than organized religion.

Physical spousal abuse it, I believe, one such reason the Church might consider annuling a married.

An annulment, however, is NOT a divorce. A divorce is a mere court proceeding that dissolves a marriage according to earthly political law. A marriage is forged in God's Law - which transcends earthly law. No mere earthly legal proceeding is going to reverse the marital bond.

There is the possibility that a marriage was never valid to begin with. However, in order to be sure, the Church needs to investigate the matter, often through Canon lawyers.

Canon lawyers make a living with the money they make doing their job for clients. So, the Church itself is not nearly the money-fleecing instrument you think it is.

For one reason or another, the previous marriages were invalid. Once one's previous marriage has been annuled, they are free to marry.

I'm guessing you're asking does the Church allow divorce?

If so, the answer is no. An annullment is not a divorce. It is a declaration that a marriage sacrament never existed in the first place.

LOL! No. A spouse is the Husband's equivalent in a Catholic Marriage. definite, a Husband has particular ROLES in marriage, as does his spouse, yet a spouse isn't meant to be taken care of as a toddler, while she is in reality a grown lady of equivalent footing along with her husband earlier God. i'm off paintings now.....time to bypass....good evening all human beings!

Catholic couples just got the right to divorce? Can you buy stocks in divorce, or do just need to look for the right casino?
(I'm betting around a 60% increase)
