I have had guinea pigs before in the past, and I have always had one in a cage. I am thinking of getting a guinea pig again and I am wondering if they are lonely being one to a cage and if its better to get 2 ? Is 2 a lot more cleaning than having just one? (almost a stupid question) but i mean is it a big difference to have 2 cleaning wise?
ok thank you...

cleaning may need to be done more often, but it doesn't make a huge difference. PLEASE get 2, they are very social animals and will get lonely on their own unless they are given lots of attention and cuddles. try to get a pair from a shop - either siblings or 2 that have been kept in the same cage and are used to each other. make sure to get 2 of the same sex, or you will have to pay to have one neutered so you don't end up with loads of baby pigs. if you cannot buy a pair, and have to buy 2 individually, then you need to look at this page for useful and IMPORTANT info on introductions:

good luck, and enjoy your piggies!

You should get 2 guinea pigs from the SAME place/cage you bought them from, they will be more social to humans and some other guinea pigs. do not get a female and a male because you will have guinea pigs for a long time (more messes to clean up). If you get 2 guinea pigs the average cleaning will probably be 4-5 times a week.

Guinea pigs are herd animals and prefer their own kind, so yes you should get 2. (make sure it's a same-sex pair!) A lone pig will survive of course, but if you have a job, sleep, or go to school there's no way you can be with the pig 24/7 to keep it company like another pig buddy would.
Actually, you will find that there's not much more work or expense to keep 2. Watching them interact with one another is worth any extra money you might spend!
Check out http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/index.php for great ideas on how to build a spacious cage for not a lot of money! Petstore cages are almost always too small, plus they cost a hideous amount of money for what little they offer.
Also, consider adoption (Petfinder, Craigslist..) over going to a petstore.

Pigs are very social, and you run the risk of your pig getting depressed about being alone. It's also better when you go on vacation to have two so one doesn't get lonely. As for cleaning, not at all. It's basically the same as having one. It's not a lot more expensive, either. You should get three pigloo/hidey holes when you get two, and three tubes as well. They may be a little more expensive, but it's worth it.

2 is better, but it depends on the cage size. there might be more cleaning due to mare stools for the multiple pigs

Guinea pigs hate to be alone, but two will produce twice as much pee and poop and will need more frequent bedding changes.
