For the past few days my 6month old kitten has been very calm, sleeps most of the time and eats very little.... I checked her rectal temp and it is 103.8. So she is running a slight fever. She has NO other symptoms... poops regularly, pees regularly... eats a little bit... She's an indoor cat... I can't think of anything that could've triggered this. She has had all her vaccines and shots. Any thoughts? What could this be? I'll measure her temp tomorrow AM, if she's still running a fever i'll take her to a vet.

That's just a slight elevation (102 is the norm). The not eating and sleeping are more concerning in a 6 month old kitten. Check her temperature tomorrow to see it has not risen. If it is the same and she is not acting "right" then she should see the vet on Monday.

Fever is a natural reaction of the body to handle viruses or mild infections and not necessarily a bad thing if it is slight and transitory.

Maybe fighting a virus? An abcess (any other cats that could have bitten her)? If no reason if found, we call it FUO--fever of unknown origin. We don't know why some cats will occasionally run a fever, but labwork and exam are all normal. Most vets will give fluids to hydrate and antibiotics to cover the bases.

Is she spayed? A cat in her first heat will have a slightly elevated temp, and probably a bit of kitty p.m.s.

Also it could be that she's trying to pass a hairball- my cat's temp went up to 105. and she was hospitalized and hydrated,
turned out it was a hairball....400.00 later...UGH!!

Give her some petromalt once a day.

Vet's is always a good idea, but if her eyes are clear, no sneezing, and eating, then try petromalt for a few days.

Yes, please take her to your vet. Take along your record. It might just be a little something but you want to know what it is and only a vet can give you an answer.

Even if her temperature goes down, I would still take her to see if an answer can be found.

Lack of energy and eating is my main concern, as other parameters (litter box) are seemingly all right.

All my cats are indoor only, and no telling what they can pick up. Being indoor simply eliminates a tremendous number of things they can pick up. But not all.

That's not a slight fever, that's a significant fever. Take her to the vet tomorrow. She's either picked up a contagious disease, or she has an abscess somewhere. Do you have more than one cat? They're good at hiding bite wounds.

Well she can have a number of things:

1st, when you have a fever you are sick right?? She may just have cold.

2nd, if her fever continues to increase, it could be an internal infection. Check her poo and see if it looks normal.

3rd, she may just be hot.

4th, you said eats a little bit, perhaps she has worms.

Best of luck tooya!!!

Ya, good choice to take her to the vet. I don't know what it is, but a fever most likely. Poor kitty. =[

(PS. Give her a pat from me!)

it is usual , animals have higher tempatures for some reason , if it was a real child that would be bad!
