Mourning dead soldiers is a necessary ritual, even when they are sent to fight an unjust war. The guarantee that they will be mourned if they die is necessary to encourage volunteers for a war that may be just. Without those volunteers, we would be forced to draft soldiers. But even drafted soldiers who are opposed to a war they are asked to fight want to be mourned.
To mourn or not to mourn is not the real problem for citizens. The real problem is to avoid being on the unjust side of a war. We killed 3 million Vietnamese and 30 years after it was over, the guy who ran the war, Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, wrote a book explaing that is was "all wrong, terribly wrong". Nurenburg trials, anyone?

Wow, not very nice, these are peoples sons, husbands, brothers going to war. Just because a war is morally wrong doesnt mean that the soldiers are at fault, they are only doing their job.
I think when soldiers are on duty, you'll find they are more interested in keeping alive than on how many other poor souls they can kill.
Think you have to seperate your feelings towards the rights and wrongs of our soldiers placements (decided by those higher up)than your thoughts of the soldiers themselves. I abhor the fact that our country thinks they have the god given right to interfere, but as for our soldiers i wish they could all come home safely.
You'd think mankind would learn from the mistakes of the past, but no, they just keep making same mistakes eh!

In case the reality of what soldiers do,has not not penetrated that special little world that you live in.......i will explain.
Soldiers do not start wars
Soldiers do not decide to oust dictators
Those decisions are made by Politicians.Rightly or wrongly, they send my nations soldiers to some god-forsaken fly blown country to enforce their political will.
Soldiers being professionals, are there to do the job to the best of their ability..regardless of what their personal opinions are on the subject...they are there to win.
Its pretty safe to state, soldiers dont kill people at random....thats the job of the insurgents/terrorists,as a common tactic used by those insurgents is to fire ordinance from civilian areas....civilians get hit in the cross-fire....which is exactly what the insurgents want.
On a personal note....if some idiot, was aiming a Rocket Propelled Grenade at me,i very much doubt that id be especially concerned if he had a family, pet goldfish, adopted goat or bugger all else.
With all due respect...you sir.....are a ****....to have this explained to you,you are either very stupid or have a chip on your shoulder.

When a soldier joins up they are usually doing it for the benefit of their country and fellow countrymen, etc. They are prepared to fight and put their lives on the line as part of their job that they have chosen to do and this would, unfortunately, include protecting themselves and their fellowmen at all costs......therefore if one of our own has fallen at the hands of an enemy whilst doing their job they should be shown respect and we mourn because one of our protectors have lost their life on behalf of us - the other side are only doing the same and I will leave it to their country to do the mourning for them!
And regarding the comment of don't they ask for it -no I don't think any man or woman asks to be shot at or bombed but in the reality of war these things do happen ......yes the realisation that they could die is probably at the back of their minds but no they are certainly not asking for it!
RIP all the soldiers who have died for the sake of us and their nation and I wish all the best of luck to all the many other brave souls who are out there defending us why we sleep easy in our beds tonight!

Soldiers as well as other services do a job as does a bus driver and I'm sure you'd be mighty issed if the number 92 never turned up to get you to work...Fact is the armed forces are there to protect us and because of that we cannot see what could happen if they weren't...Soldiers in general are out for the bad guy and the bad guy wants to kill anything that doesn't tally with him, that includes civvies minding their own business travelling to and from work...

A nation that does'nt mourn its fallen is like a football supporter who cheers when the other team scores, get it?
Or look at it this way.
ITS HUMAN AND NORMAL to acknowledge the death of someone who has given his life for his country.

I am a soldier with 20 years service protecting what my country believe in and i believe in...... i do not have the authorisation to kill other people or their families unless i am or my comrades or british property are threatened! I do not go abroad for the glory i go as i am doing my job that one day if i am killed my children will say 'my father served his nation for what freedom and democracy are about' 'he served with dignity and valour' bearing in mind i have seen all conflicts since 1987 that the british army have served in!

Ironic isn't it,that the only reason that you are able to ask a question that dishonors our fallen soldiers ,is because of the blood spilled by soldiers past that paid for your freedom of speech?!
