cold water is the best/only first aid when you burn yourself - 20 minutes under the tap and no less. NEVER ice OR vinegar OR milk OR butter OR green tea OR mustard OR toothpaste OR sunscreen OR semen OR vaseline OR tomatoes OR vanilla extract OR yogurt OR sour cream OR egg white OR egg yellow OR lavender oil OR cocoa butter OR salt OR tea bags OR potato OR shaving cream OR olive oil OR baking soda OR banana peel OR petroleum jelly OR whipped cream OR avocado OR bacon grease OR corn starch OR turmeric OR lemon juice OR curd OR pickle juice OR soy sauce OR urine OR talcum powder OR mashed strawberries OR exfoliating scrub OR mayonnaise OR peroxide OR bleach OR deep heat OR ketchup OR red grapes OR hairspray- not until the skin is fully healed!

ibuprofen or aspirin will help but large burns are often accompanied by stomach ulcers, so tylenol/panadol is best for pain if you are gonna tough it out. drink plenty of water or energy drinks that don't have caffeine (gatorade)

i would advise that you cover the burnt area with white soft paraffin (white petroleum) or aqueous cream bp. (check the links below and see if you can find a local equivalent). wash the burn and reapply every 4-6 hours - cover with cling wrap if you wish to cover with clothes - this will stop your clothes getting covered with paraffin and maintains the burn. cling wrap alone is also ok if you can't get hold of any paraffin. it acts as a protective artificial skin - helping retain moisture and protect from further damage and pain.

aloe is good coz it remoisturises but that moisture can be quickly lost as the skin can't contain fluids. so put aloe on, and then the paraffin on over the top. if there is broken skin leave out the aloe - just paraffin.

finally if you are really worried go to a hospital that has a burns unit or plastic surgeons. serious sunburn i.e. blisters (and all other burns) should be seen by a burns trained doctor or nurse.

I just got a bad sunburn a while ago, and this helped so much! The next day I was still burned, but it didn't hurt and it wasn't near as bad. And, a bonus, I usually peel, but with this I didn't peel at all!

1. Replenish you body immediately with water. Drink away! That is the best thing you can do. Oh, and while you are drinking away, take an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen or Advil.

2. Liquify two potatoes in a blender. (add water if they are sort of dry). Apply all over burns and wait to dry. Don't do this if you are allergic!

3. Wash the area in a lukewarm bath or shower. (I prefer the bath, because the shower kinda hurts.) Make sure it's not hot or cold. Just warm. Both hot and cold will cause more damage, not to mention it's easy to get overheated or really chilled if you are burned. Don't use bubblebath, because it will only dry out your skin.

4. After the bath, take some vinegar and a compress. Apply it to the burned areas.

5. Apply Aloe Vera gel to the burned areas. Stay away from ingredients with "cane" or "Caine" as they can irritate skin.

6. Once that is soaked in, apply a moisturizing lotion, but keep it oil free!

7. Now don on some comfy clothing, and go sleep! Stay wrapped in blankets if you are chilled.

If it is severe, with large blisters, oozing or skin that turns white (not pale, I mean real white. That means it's 3rd degree.) See a Dermatologist!

AND REMEMBER TO DRINK LOT'S OF WATER!

Oh girl I feel your pain. I am fair skinned with freckles too! I normally get aloe vera on it asap. I also like taking cool shower, to pull the heat out of it. Take some Ibprofen, it also helps with the sting and the heat. You are getting the chills cause you skin is so hot, your body is trying to cool it off, so get a cold cloth on it if you dont want to take a shower or bath. I sorry you got that, I hate sunburns! Good luck my fairskinned friend!

p.s. If you listen to Rose's answer, just so you know I have only used that for itching before, and also don't put the oatmeal directly in the bath, since it will clog the drain. Keep it wrapped up in a cloth or sheet would be better.

You can get it fresh or in a bottle sold at healthfood stores. Aloe vera is extremely beneficial. You just keep putting it on. It will cool immediately then when it gets hot again put more on and dont take any of it off. Just keep applying it. I was in India and had an accident with a pressure cooker and was burnt all over my face. I couldnt eat for a week. But I have no scars or anything because of continuously applying aloe vera gel on it. Some of the gels contain things that are not good for burns so if you are going to buy it, get it as pure as possible. The kind people drink is good. There are other natural ways but I am not as experienced with them so I will just say Aloe Vera. I hope you feel better soon. Tons of love!

Take a bath in
2 cups of uncooked oat meal
1 cup of milk
1 tablespoon of honey

You pour the ingrediants into tempid bathwater and soak in it for a while. After your bath rub alo vera on it-it will feel a bit cold but it heals the skin quickly. But there's always silver lining. After getting sunburned you'll have a great tan!

Drink LOTS And LOTS of water. Sunburn also dehydrates you. You can rub white vinegar on it if you can stand the smell. Also take a cool shower with lye soap. Suppose to work.Yes, also keep your , After Sun in the fridge. I live at the lake and have done this for years.
