A lot of people have a form of the herpes virus. It is called HSV-1. This commonly is just cold sores though different people react differently to the virus. You could've been born with the virus or received it at a young age and it has been dormant in you all this time. If he never had the virus, the initial contact with it probably surprised his body, explaining the reaction of his lips. As long as the blisters and everything are small, you are facing HSV-1 which is nothing to worry about.

BUT, while HSV-1 is active on his face, DO NOT engage in oral sex or you can spread the virus to another part of your body that would well to be blunt, really suck for you.

HSV-2 is a what is commonly referred to as real herpes. The blisters and such are said to be much bigger/painful/annoying. And you would KNOW you had it if you had it.

So my conclusion is, you passed to your boyfriend just simple cold sores. You should have nothing to worry about.

Since herpes takes about 2 weeks from the point of exposure to the point where you may start showing symptoms, I can assure you that you did NOT give it to him. (If what you say is true about never having symptoms before)

Herpes type 1 (oral) are often called "cold sores" or "fever blisters." From Yahoo, an estimated 50-80% of Americans are infected with HSV type 1. You can get cold sores from kissing (of course) or sharing utensils or drinks from an infected person. Often, parents give them to their children from kissing them!

You may have been exposed to the virus now because he broke out a day later. As another poster said, stress, sun exposure, and a weakened immune system can cause breakouts.

An STD or STI is a disease people get from having sex. If you get HSV 1 from sharing utensils or kissing, then it's not considered an STD or STI.

Cold sores are really no big deal. People can use over the counter medications such as Abreva to clear them up faster. You can also use a vitamin supplement called L-Lysine, an amino acid, which is thought to maintain the health of skin and lips and clear symptoms up faster.

Where you can get into trouble with cold sores is if you have oral sex. HSV 1 can infect in the genitals, and HSV 2 (genital herpes) can infect the mouth.

You can do a simple search on Yahoo or Google about cold sores and get more information.

Right. You said in another question you kissed him when he had symptoms but showed none afterwards yourself. If you kissed him when he was that infectious and didn't catch it, that says to me you already have the virus, and have had it in your system for some time, months or many years, even since you were a baby. So, you both have oral herpes, and you want ot know who gave it to who. Not that easy. It still sounds far more likely to me that you gave it to him. He obviously didn't give it to you. But is it really worth all the worry? The likelihood now is that you both have oral herpes, so you can kiss away. Cold sores really aren't a big deal. Like I said, 60-95% of the population are infected with oral herpes.

The nurse who posted above is wrong about the incubation time for the virus. The incubation period for herpes is 2-20 days before symptoms, so it is completely untrue that you couldn't have given it to him. My first symptoms appeared 2-3 days after contact. So it is possible that you gave it to him.

He could have gotten it anywhere ( sharing a glass or a drink with someone ) . Some people just harbor the virus in their system and some stress or too much sun triggers it. You did not give it to him. Just don't kiss him while the sores are active. I've had cold sores since I was 19 & I'm 44. If they get really bad he can get a prescription for some ointment to put on them when they first start up. Some people get a one or two then never get them again.
Just don't let him perform oral sex on you while he has an active cold sore or it can spread to the genitals and then you have a real problem.

well how many girls has your boyfriend kissed? he could have kissed a herpes carrier 15 years ago and has had the virus (and didn't know it), but never a break out. It could just be coincidence that he had his first break around the same time you kissed.
